Jockey Quotes - Alan Brown Stakes

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $1,500,000 Alan Brown Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Nash Rawiller (Cepheus): “That was gallant. Barriers win races don’t they? He got the perfect run, there was genuine tempo and he was there to be beat. He was going to get beat but he found a bit. When he saw that horse (Cotehele - 2nd) coming late he actually dove at the line. Not many horses do that, but he’s in such a rich vein of form.

“When we first hit the line I said to Tommy Sherry (rider of Cotehele - 2nd) ‘I think you might’ve got me’. What I like about my bloke he just lifts himself up from the canvas. He stuck his head out again and he’s obviously got it right on the line.

“Matty Dunn and his team, he’s sort of done me a lot of favours over the past couple of years. Blokes like him and John Thompson they’ve put me on through everything. I’m getting the rewards now riding for the good trainers.

“What is he five or six years old, they can have a think. But he wants to win at the moment and that’s what makes the difference.”

Tom Sherry (Cotehele): “Super run. Tough pill to swallow. He was first up and has raced accordingly. Raced brilliantly and hopefully we beat them in the Big Dance.”

Zac Lloyd (Flying Crazy): “Enormous run. Has really savaged the line there. Can’t ask for much more. Really going well.”

Tim Clark (Skyman): “Just found it a bit short. Was at his top the whole way.”

Koby Jennings (Bandersnatch): “He ran really well. Had to use him up from an awkward gate. At the top of the straight he was feeling really well.”

Ryan Maloney (Stockman): “Never felt comfortable at any stage of the race. Dare say he’s jarred up on the firm track.”

Tommy Berry (Roots): “Considering she was first up 1400m, she rattled home late so is in for a good prep.”

Jean Van Overmeire (Banju): “First up probably just needed the run.”

Sam Clipperton (Lion's Roar): “I thought he ran really well. He is probably looking to get to the mile at Randwick but my horse is going particularly well this preparation.”

Regan Bayliss (Attractable): “He is on track for the Big Dance.”

Jason Collett (Detonator Jack): “Had a lovely position in run but was probably racing at my top the whole way so just didn’t really have enough there to play with late.”

Brett Prebble (Waterford): “Got a little bit further out of his ground than I would have liked. Just made it too hard from there.”

Tyler Schiller (Argentia): “A bit plain. Not sure what has happened there. She travelled lovely but didn’t let down.”

Brock Ryan (Cuban Royale): “Good run. He might be looking for a mile now.”

Kerrin McEvoy (Palmetto): “He ran a good race. Will enjoy going a bit further now.”

Jay Ford (Olentia): “She was disappointing. Found a nice spot with cover but she dropped the bridle from the 700m and never recovered.”

Andrew Adkins (Wild Planet): “Barrier got is in his road today. Wide but ran OK. Was entitled to stop late.”

Kathy O'Hara (Cisco Bay): “Not bad first up. Looking for further. Hard the way the track is playing today to make up ground.”
