Friday Focus - A Snapshot Of Saturday Racing

By Nick Berney

ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST BET: Race 4 # 1 – YORKSHIRE

He is an improving type on an upward ratings spiral and well-placed with the claim. The O'Shea & Charlton galloper is coming through time/sectional merit races and has run time, winning his past two. He has shown the key attributes of adaptability/acceleration and the step out to 1600m should pose no issue. Further, his consistency will take him a long way; he has a strong SP profile and a dominant last-start figure.

ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST VALUE: Race 9 # 15 – COOL JAKEY

His first-up run had hidden merit after having the pace and bias against him at Rosehill a fortnight ago. He wasn't suited to the race shape and had excuses in transit, but he hit the line hard, running one of the meeting's quickest final 200m splits. The Joe Pride galloper runs to a pattern and has won three from three second-up. He can settle much closer from the soft draw, the blinkers go on where he produces his peak figures and is suited to all conditions.

ROYAL RANDWICK– SECTIONAL STAR: Race 6 # 2 – COMMEMORATIVE

The four-year-old brings a strong profile and has a positive race setup for this event. She resumes from 147-day break and has looked sharp in two recent trials going through the line full of energy in her latest heat at Rosehill. The Godolphin galloper should've won first-up last preparation after being just beaten by subsequent Group 1 winner Kimochi. Further, her effort had sectional merit, and Punter's Intelligence recorded she ran one of the meeting fastest final 200m splits in 11.22. Her peak performances have come fresh, and she maps to have every chance from the inside draw.

CANTERBURY PARK – FRIDAY NIGHT PICK: Race 6 # 11 – WEEPING WOMAN

She was well-backed first-up at Warwick Farm 18 days ago, and her effort was full of merit after having too much to do. The lightly raced filly was posted four-wide out on a limb, working at an even tempo, and to her credit, she never shirked her task to the line, running a solid final 200m. She improved sharply second-up last prep, and her peak figure came at Canterbury. Likeable profile with a more positive race setup.
