Friday Focus - A Snapshot Of Saturday Racing

By Nick Berney

KEMBLA GRANGE – BEST BET: Race 6 # 13 – BLAZING HARRY

Keen on him, and he profiles well for this assignment. The four-year-olds last start win was full of merit after showing adaptability, acceleration and his late strength was backed up by the clock. Further, he produced a high-rating last section, ran time and went through the line full of energy, pricking his ears. The gelding is an improving type, drops in weight which will enhance his turn of foot and the rise to 1400m suits. In addition, he maps well and can make it back-to-back wins.

KEMBLA GRANGE – NEXT BEST: Race 7 # 15 – ROCK EMPIRE

The Waterhouse & Bott galloper is a lightly raced, consistent type and can bounce back here with a positive race setup. He ran time two starts ago, doing it easily, and then had factors against last start. The four-year-old was 45 days between runs and raced as if he would benefit from the run. He was outpaced up-tempo in a slowly run race, checked/blocked at key stages, but once getting his mind on the job, his final 50m was strong to/through the line. He has a solid SP profile, draws perfectly with Tim Clark to ride and will bounce off that last start effort sharply.

KEMBLA GRANGE – SECTIONAL STAR: Race 4 # 7 – LEFT FIELD

Her first-up run after being heavily backed was better than the form guide reads, and her effort had sectional merit. The Brad Widdup trained runner didn't cope with the high-pressure event and was chasing throughout, unable to build into a comfortable rhythm. She made her run through the inferior ground, but Punter's Intelligence recorded her running the meeting's second-fastest final 600m split in 33.18. The mare is suited out to 1200m, and the blinkers go back on.

WYONG – PROVINCIAL PICK: Race 7 # 1 – ARTIFACTX

He was brave in defeat last start over an unsuitable distance, and his run was full of merit. The gelding raced wide out on a limb throughout in a good-even speed, and although forced wider on the turn, he still hit the line well. Further, he clocked the meeting's second-fastest final 200m split and is ready to peak third-up out to 1200m with a dominant ratings profile.
