ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST BET: Race 3 # 1 – INVADER ZIM
He’s a nice type who has returned improved this preparation, and he produced a career peak figure when winning at this track last start. The gelding was well-ridden that day but showed key attributes to score, holding his action well to the line. Further, he ran slick time/sectionals relative to the day after adjustments. He maps to have all favours; James McDonald goes on for the first time and brings the clear best last figure.
ROYAL RANDWICK – NEXT BEST: Race 7 # 8 – ARTS
She represents value and can improve significantly here second-up over a more suitable trip. The five-year-old needed the run first-up, was completely unsuited by the pace of the race and had to switch back to the inferior ground. She can step significantly out to 1600m and can settle much closer from the soft draw. In addition, the mare has had multiple excuses throughout her career, and she has the opportunity to bounce back to her career form.
ROYAL RANDWICK – SECTIONAL STAR: Race 4 # 1 – AGE OF SAIL
He should’ve won last start at Rosehill after having no luck. He was heavily backed late in the trade, wasn’t suited to the sit/sprint race shape, and was checked/blocked for most of the straight. Once clear over the concluding stages, he savaged the line with Punter’s Intelligence recording him running one of the meetings fastest final 200m splits in 11.52. He sets up well here and, with even luck, will be hard to hold out.
KEMBLA GRANGE – PROVINCIAL PICK: Race 8 # 9 – AMARANTZ
She is a sharp improver, finally getting back onto a drier surface where she produces her peak figures. The mare has had multiple excuses all preparation, but her last start had merit. Further, she had too much to do after having the race shape against but ran on well into fourth, clocking solid closing splits. She drops in grade, gets in with no weight after the claim, which will enhance her closing speed, and the rise to 2000m is ideal.
