Friday Focus - A Snapshot Of Saturday Racing

By Nick Berney

ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST BET: Race 5 # 1 – WORLD ALLIANCE

He's gone to a new level this preparation, and both of his wins have had merit. The gelding was heavily backed late in the trade last start at Warwick Farm, and the clock backed up his late strength. Further, he wasn't entirely suited to the sit/sprint race shape, but he showed acceleration and his key attribute in closing speed to run over the top of his rivals, clocking the meeting fastest final 200m split. He is suited back out to 1100m, maps to have all favours, and although up in weight, he can step again third-up.

ROYAL RANDWICK – VALUE BET: Race 8 # 7 – INVADER ZIM

His first-up run at this track/distance a few weeks ago was arguably the run of the day in a high-rating race. The Chris Waller-trained galloper always indicated he would improve time/maturity and was brave in defeat to finish second. Further, he raced three-wide out on a limb at a fast pace, showed a turn of foot, but kept wanting to find the line to just miss in a tight finish. He can step off that effort, and everything points towards a peak performance.

ROYAL RANDWICK – SECTIONAL STAR: Race 10 # 10 – SEQUESTERED

She brings a likeable profile to this event and has had two trials in preparation for this assignment. The Godolphin galloper has gone to the line full of energy and not extended in both heats. First-up last prep, she won with style, and Punter's Intelligence recorded her sectional strength with the mare recording one of the meeting's fastest final 200m splits in 11.42. She maps to have all favours with James McDonald riding and expect her to sprint hard fresh.

KEMBLA GRANGE – PROVINCIAL PICK: Race 3 # 5 – EVERYBODY RISE

He's primed to break through for his maiden win and ready to peak third-up with multiple proven form lines around him. He was solid first-up at Kensington, and then, although well beaten last start, he tried hard in defeat. Further, that race rated extremely well against the day, and there have been two subsequent winners since to confirm the form. He can only benefit from that effort from a fitness perspective, and he has dominant ratings relative to his opposition.
