Friday Focus - A Snapshot Of Saturday Racing

By Nick Berney

ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST BET: Race 4 # 15 – BE REAL

Like her at the odds and she is on an upwards ratings spiral this preparation. The filly produced a career peak figure when winning at Hawkesbury last start, and the clock backed up her visual late strength. She had to overcome the race shape, picked up well and savaged the line to run one of the meeting's fastest final 200m splits, and all key indicators suggest the rise to 2000m will only be a plus. Additionally, the big margin to third confirmed the quality of the race. Jockey Tyler Schiller sticks; she maps to have all favours, is proven on the rain-affected ground and gets in with a lightweight.

ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST VALUE: Race 2 # 18 – NOVEMBER FALLS

She is ready to break through this prep, and her last start effort had merit. The mare led at a fast pace, raced in inferior ground, and went down fighting to run second in what was a high-rating race relative to the day. She is now at optimal fitness, a rise in trip will pose no issue, and all her peak figures have come on rain-affected surfaces. Expect her to roll forward and give a sight. Each-way.

ROYAL RANDWICK – SECTIONAL STAR: Race 5 # 1 – MISSY MOOLA

Her return was strong at this track a fortnight ago when running second to Group 3 winner Konasana. The mare had all favours leading at a very slow tempo, but she sprinted hard, and Punter's Intelligence recorded she ran the meeting's fourth fastest final 200m in 11.78. She will be fitter for that, profiles to improve second-up and has a positive map.

GRAFTON – COUNTRY PICK: Race 7 # 6 – GROOVY DAY

Her run on debut at this track 23 days ago had hidden merit. The filly was restrained from a wide draw and had too much to do. Further, she got too far back in the run, but once she got her mind on the job, she made up ground in the straight and clocked the day's fastest final 200m split. She will have benefited from the race experience, will appreciate the rise in trip, and gets in with no weight after the claim.
