ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST BET: Race 4 # 1 – TANNHAUSER
He's ready to peak fourth-up over 2000m and profiles well for this event. He had too much to do last start at this track after getting too far back and had to make a long-sustained sprint. Further, he clocked one of the meeting's fastest final 200m splits, and he brings the best last-start figure. The Chris Waller-trained galloper receives a significant barrier change, allowing him to settle closer, and James McDonald rides. Hard to hold out with even-luck.
ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST BET: Race 6 # 12 – FAWKNER PARK
He's gone to a new level this prep, and he bolted in to win the Albury Cup (2000m) last start after being heavily backed late in the trade. He's on an upwards ratings spiral this prep, and all key indicators suggest he can step again. In addition, he maps to be smothered away, and getting down to 53.5kg will enhance his key asset of acceleration.
ROYAL RANDWICK – SECTIONAL STAR: Race 1 # 16 – ALWAYS SURE
His first-up run in this grade had hidden merit after nothing went right for the gelding from a wide draw. He was checked/blocked at key stages after getting too far back but ran on well, making up ground. Punter's Intelligence recorded that he ran the race's fastest final 600m in 33.70, and the rise to 1400m is ideal. Expect him to be much closer from the soft draw, and a senior rider in Tim Clark goes on.
KEMBLA GRANGE – PROVINCIAL PICK: Race 8 # 5 – PURE HYDROGEN
He represents value and is ready to peak third-up down in grade. The gelding is coming through a high-rating Provincial-Midway Championship Wildcard (1400m), where his effort had sectional merit. He ran one of the fastest final 200m splits of the meeting, went through the line full of energy, and his ratings/sectional profile suggests he'll step off that effort. Additionally, he races well at this track and is over the odds.
