Friday Focus - A Snapshot Of Saturday Racing

By Nick Berney

ROSEHILL GARDENS – BEST BET: Race 4 # 6 – Steel City

Forget her last start, where she started a $5.50 second favourite in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) but had no luck. Prior to that, she was brave in defeat, running second to Learning To Fly in the Group 3 Widden Stakes (1100m), one of the season's highest-rating two-year-old races. Further, she clocked one of the fastest final 600m splits of the meeting and beat the rest easily. The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace trained galloper brings the strongest form lines to this event, has dominant figures and a solid SP profile. In addition, expect her to roll forward with the blinkers on and Rosehill 1200m on a dry track suits. Hard to beat with even luck.

ROSEHILL GARDENS – BEST VALUE: Race 3 # 10 – Tonneofgrit

Is an interesting runner who looks set to run a bold race first up. The four-year-old resumes and has jumped out well at Flemington on two occasions recently without blinkers. First-up last prep, he got too far back in the Silver Eagle (1300m) but ran on well and clocked hidden closing sectionals. The Hawkes trained galloper is wound up for this event, and the blinkers go on for the first time. Moreover, all his peak figures have come on dry ground and with the anticipated genuine tempo engaged, expect him to be savaging the line. Each-way.

ROSEHILL GARDENS – SECTIONAL STAR: RACE 5 # 5 – Clemenceau

Has trialled well enough and wasn't extended in a recent heat at Rosehill. First-up last prep, his run was full of merit behind subsequent winner Remarque. The gelding raced slightly fresh/keen in the moderate tempo, and then his momentum was halted coming into the final straight. However, he picked himself up and clocked one of the fastest final 200m splits of the meeting in 11.27. Further, repeating that effort and the prospect of a favourable map will make him hard to catch.

ROSEHILL GARDENS – HORSE TO WATCH: Race 7 # 15 – King Frankel

Is on a Sydney Cup campaign and won the Parramatta Cup (1900m) in style first-up at this track. The five-year-old was exposed throughout, bringing the rest of the field up to a tearaway leader and then showed late strength to wear his rival down. Moreover, all key indicators, such as his ratings/sectional profile, suggests he will improve from that performance. The import is in his second OZ campaign, and he can continue progressing.

GOSFORD - PROVINCIAL PICK: Race 7 # 10 – Premise

Was impressive breaking through for her maiden win at this track last start. The three-year-old settled well in the run, and once a gap appeared in the straight, she showed a sharp turn of foot. Further, the filly clocked one of the fastest final 200m splits of the meeting and went through the line full of energy. She is on an upwards ratings spiral, has a solid platform to improve again over more ground and maps to have all favours.
