Friday Focus - A Snapshot Of Saturday Racing

By Nick Berney

ROYAL RANDWICK – BEST BET: Race 7 # 11 – UNSPOKEN

He has gone to a new level this preparation, and he profiles well for this event. The import had every chance last start when winning at this track/distance, but his effort had merit. Further, he charged to the line, sprinting the meeting's second quickest final 200m split, went through the line full of energy and did it with style late. He has a similar setup in this assignment, being 21 days between runs and maps positively with the anticipated race shape suiting. In addition, he drops 6kg, which will only enhance his key asset in acceleration and expect him to be hard to hold out.

ROYAL RANDWICK –BEST VALUE: Race 9 # 9 – FOR VALOUR

Is now at optimal fitness with a strong platform and ready to peak. The six-year-old was suited leading at a moderate tempo last start at this track/distance but was honest fighting on to hold fourth. His ratings/sectional profile suggest he will improve here, drops 4.5kg, and he won fourth-up last prep. Moreover, the wide draw is of little concern as he can roll forward with Regan Bayliss on, and he can control the race. Good each-way.

ROYAL RANDWICK – SECTIONAL STAR: Race 4 # 2 – PROMISES KEPT

His return run at this track 21 days ago had more merit than the form guide reads. Punter's Intelligence recoded the gelding covered an extra 7.6m relative to the eventual winner after travelling wide throughout, and he loomed to win after sprinting a strong 600m-200m split in 22.77. Further, he peaked on his run, but he can only improve off that effort. The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace trained galloper will be suited out to 2000m, and it's worth noting he started $7.50 in the QLD Derby (2400m) last prep behind Kovalica.

KEMBLA GRANGE – PROVINCIAL PICK: Race 5 # 12 – RHESUS

Resumed as a gelding 23 days ago at Wyong, and his run was full of merit in an exceptionally high-rating race. He was specked $6.5-$4.8 late in the trade, got too far back in transit, but ran on hard to finish second. Further, there has been a subsequent winner to confirm the form and improving gallopers Dark Halo/Keenan come through that event. The Godolphin trained runner will have benefited from that outing; a rise in distance suits and the bigger track is ideal. Hard to beat with even luck.
