Five Diamonds & Inglis Golden Gift Sparkle For Everest Carnival Finale

The final day of the spectacular $87 million Sydney Everest Carnival goes to Rosehill Gardens this Saturday for feature events the $2 million Five Diamonds, $1 million Inglis Golden Gift and $500,000 Group 2-James Squire Hot Danish Stakes.

Five Diamonds Ladies Day and the second running of the $2m Five Diamonds has attracted a capacity field of 14 runners and four emergencies in another innovative race open only to five-year-old horses.

The $1m Inglis Golden Gift is a key pathway race for the iconic $5m Golden Slipper in March, with Saturday’s first prize of $580,000 and second prizemoney of $190,000 putting two horses high on the qualifying order for the world’s richest race for two-year-olds.

Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering, James Ross said Saturday capped a hugely successful Sydney Everest Carnival.

“The past months and throughout the Sydney Everest Carnival we have showcased Sydney racing to the world and grown spring to new levels," Mr Ross said.

“Saturday is a fitting finale to the Carnival with a capacity and quality field in the [$2 million] Five Diamonds.

“The running of the [$1 million] Inglis Golden Gift is a crucial step for horses aiming to qualify for the Golden Slipper on the official prizemoney Order Of Entry."

Australian Turf Club and Racing NSW will hold a service on Saturday as part of Remembrance Day as the nation commemorates the end of World War I and in honour of fallen servicemen and women.

Poppies will be handed out at the Might and Power gates and jockeys will join Australian Racing Christian Chaplaincy, Reverend Colin Watts in the Mounting Yard for the ceremony following the running of race 4.

Queensland visitor Antino for trainer Tony Gollan and TAB Everest-winning jockey Sam Clipperton opens a strongly-backed $4.60-$2.90 TAB favourite in the Five Diamonds.

Democracy Manifest trained by Chris Waller with Nash Rawiller aboard is an $8 pick followed by Unspoken ($9-$12-$10) looking for four wins in a row for Peter and Paul Snowden and Tom Sherry.

The $1m Inglis Golden Gift has also attracted a capacity field – 14 runners and two emergencies – with the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott stable’s Shangri La Express with jockey Regan Bayliss an early $2.25 TAB favourite. The colt, a dominant winner at its first start, has drawn barrier 14.

Volatile trained by Peter & Paul Snowden for jockey Tommy Berry and Scampi for the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace stable are both at $7 on TAB for Dylan Gibbons.

In the $500,000 Gr 2-James Squire Hot Danish Stakes, the Maher & Eustace stable lines up favourite Royal Merchant ($2.40-$2.50) and jockey Jason Collett ahead of Call Di ($3) for Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou and in-form jockey Nash Rawiller.
