Aptly-named Dollar Magic is all of that for keen punters presenting with bombproof form lines and a maximum claim for promising apprentice Jasper Franklin into Saturday’s TAB Highway at Rosehill Gardens.
Ultra consistent Dollar Magic, after running second at headquarters to Mogo Magic, the hottest prospect in regional racing in fast time, was dominant winning with big weights at Scone and Dubbo for trainer Scott Singleton.
His 60kg into a $120,000 Class 3, 1200m on Saturday is reduced 3kg by Jasper’s claim.
The northern rivers 19-year-old and Rising Star apprentice winner is also buoyed by strongly fancied rides for Chris Waller and Bjorn Baker on the 10-race program.
“Massive opportunity with the big boys in Brisbane, looking at the form, I’m on three favourites and Dollar Magic’s form is super for this grade,” offered Jasper, newly indentured to Michael Freedman from Hong Kong bound Mark Newnham.
“I know her, I do my form, watch as many races as I can - you’ve got to. She’s 100% trier, drawn out in those big wins with weight.
“We’re drawn well (barrier four), drops in weight from dominant wins and will be on-pace. Better races I think and Scott is flying.”
Jasper won the 2022/23 Rising Star award from Dylan Gibbons and Tyler Schiller: “I was busting to get an opportunity in town once I outrode my country claim.
“So different riding city class from bush horses. Like driving Ferraris.
“I haven’t ridden a Saturday city grade winner but with the big boys getting rides for Chris Waller and Bjorn Baker - massive.
“I know this is a one off, so I’ve got to make the most of it. Dollar Magic did run second at Randwick to Mogo Magic in fast time - it might be special.”
A million dollar offer from Hong Kong suggests that. Singleton is in the zone with ongoing series’ success and a winning $31 outsider Comonic at Scone last week.
Tall for a jockey and always managing weight to ride around 56kg, Jasper has ridden 40 winners at an outstanding 16% strike rate this season.
While Dollar Magic heads the TAB market at $3.60, the big watch and firmer will be Keith Dryden’s unbeaten three-race winner Sister Moon ($9) who through early scratchings has already gained a run as second emergency from an inside gate.
Early withdrawals are Blow Dart, Jacenza, Just Jacky and Kappy’s Angel. The promising Stephen Jones-trained Highway winner Sussu ($12) will also be withdrawn from a wide gate (15) to be set for another episode in two weeks.
At present 'The Gardens' is a Soft 5 in good weather.
