Consenza ($16 on TAB) might have been moved on by the Hawkes and then Gollan stables, but her recent form is compelling reverting to a Class 2, 1100m TAB Highway at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.
The impeccably bred four-year-old Zoustar mare has plenty in her favour for Scone’s multiple series winner Scott Singleton as she carries 59.5kg in barrier one for in-form rider Jay Ford.
Jumping out at form students is Consenza’s recent close third at Scone to Saturday’s impressive Royal Randwick winner South of India.
Also her fourth to Regional Championships placegetter The Dramatist at Tamworth and second to unbeaten prospect Joiselle on home track.
Consenza also finished third at Eagle Farm last preparation.
And while she hasn’t won for an extended time, Consenza regularly raced well in tougher city and provincial grade for Hawkes and then sparingly for the Gollans.
She was placed for the latter stable in tougher Eagle Farm grade in December before transferred to the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas-winning Scott Singleton.
And her comeback starts for Scott suggest the best might still be yet to come at just four years with gear changes before the breeding barn.
“She’s essentially a breeding proposition, being a Zoustar out of a Sebring mare (Silver Magic Ships) but she’s racing so well and is where we want her three runs this time in and trials,” expanded Singleton.
“She’s well placed in a Country Class 2 - I’ve won Highways with inferior horses to this mare that’s for sure.”
Consenza was bred by B 2 B Bloodstock and is owned by the esteemed racing Kellys and Suffolk Vale and Co.
“Before she came here, she’d been mixing her form, a while between wins but winkers have made a difference and her form lines are certainly strong for this race.”
She was spelled for the required stable qualifying time for Highways from Gollan’s city stable.
“She came to us in really good order, lovely mare with the breeding. Fitter for racing, barrier one, and we’ll leave it to Jay to put her where we need to be.”
With Rosehill Gardens rain-affected, Consenza has been placed on heavy and soft tracks.
The mare has raced on-pace in better grade and despite her travels has raced just 14 times for two wins and several placings.
While a typically capacity field has numerous regular series runners, a focus is the “new blood” in unbeaten King Larry ($11) for Wayne Wilkes and Zarizatycoon ($7) for Gayna Williams.
Both horses are coming off inferior races but remain unbeaten and displayed exceptional speed and on rain-affected tracks.
Of course, the key booking of James McDonald for Sir Ming ($8) for Highway specialist Danielle Seib ensures it will improve third-up after a let-up on recent unplaced series efforts.
Lisztomania ($5) and Palazzo Prince ($5.50) head the TAB market. At present the 'Gardens is a Soft 7 in fine weather.
