The Listed $160,000 Carrington Stakes headlines a 10-race card at Royal Randwick this Saturday as Australian Turf Club’s busy summer festival of racing continues through January.
Along with Saturday’s meeting, Kia Friday Night Racing at Canterbury Park is back this week, ahead of a huge Australia Day at Warwick Farm next week, featuring a spectacular and popular pony race along the home straight, and free entry and family entertainment across both those meetings.
Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering, James Ross said Saturday’s return to feature racing started several months of world-class racing in Sydney.
“It is exciting to keep seeing the two-year-old picture unfold in Sydney with just eight weeks until the ultimate prize in the Longines Golden Slipper," Mr Ross said.
“We are also just one month from the first Group 1 of the year in Sydney and Saturday sees the start of Group and black type racing right through to the back end of April.
“The Sydney summer racing program offers plenty of options in January and allows racegoers a variety of racedays and nights at all of our courses to attend in a vibrant atmosphere."
The Joe Pride-trained Titanium Power with Glyn Schofield aboard is the $3.70 TAB favourite from the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Vreneli at $4.20 in Saturday’s Listed Drinkwise Carrington Stakes.
The five-year-old is a winner of six of his 15 starts including his past two runs at Rosehill Gardens where the horse has led all the way.
Just less than 60 days before the iconic $5 million Longines Golden Slipper, a field of 14 two year olds line up in the $150,000 Petaluma Handicap as the journey to the world’s richest race for juveniles continues.
The Peter and Paul Snowden stable runner Don Corleone to be ridden by champion Sydney jockey James McDonald is the $5.50 third favourite behind Coincide ($4.20 fav) and Rockabilly Rebel ($5).
Don Corleone, an unraced Extreme Choice colt, is high in TAB markets at $17 Fixed Odds for the Group 1 $5 million Longines Golden Slipper to be run at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday 18 March. Don Corleone ran third in a recent trial to boom stablemate and current Longines Golden Slipper favourite King’s Gambit.
