The inaugural $2 million The Invitation and third running of the $1 million Bondi Stakes are two features of City Tattersalls Club Cup Day at Royal Randwick on Saturday as the Australian Turf Club’s growing Everest Carnival continues.
With crowd capacities lifted to 10,000 spectators again this Saturday all patrons must pre-register and purchase tickets here with limited hospitality and general admission tickets remaining.
The Listed $140,000 ClubsNSW City Tattersalls Club Cup and Listed $200,000 Daily Press Brian Crowley Stakes add further horsepower to the meeting off the back of last Saturday’s electric Everest Day and crowd celebration.
The $2 million The Invitation – the newest race in Sydney’s innovative $50 million Everest Carnival this Spring – draws together 12 of Australia’s best fillies and mares by special invitation from Racing NSW and The Australian Turf Club. The highly-talented Kiwi mare – trained by Jamie Richards and ridden by Tommy Berry – has opened a $2.70-$2.80 TAB favourite.
Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering, James Ross said Saturday’s meeting was another important addition to an Everest Carnival which continues to grow in stature across the world.
“The inaugural running of The Invitation is another exciting addition to the Everest Carnival in a unique race format attracting some of Australia’s best fillies and mares," Mr Ross said. “We are also delighted on this growing raceday to join with one of the Australian Turf Club’s longest standing partners City Tattersalls Club and the running of their time-honoured Cup.
“The Everest Carnival continues to grow in wagering and viewing audiences and we are especially excited to have more owners, ATC Members and spectators on course this Saturday and throughout the remainder of spring."

In a competitive betting race outside of Entriviere, three horses sit equal on the second line of TAB Betting at $8.50 TAB for The Invitation – Vangelic (trainers Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott and jockey Tim Clark), Icebath (Brad Widdup and Kerrin McEvoy) and Startantes (Robert Heathcote and Robbie Dolan).
The $1 million Bondi Stakes features a return clash at the top of TAB markets between Coastwatch ($2.90-3.20) and Hilal ($3.60 – $3.50). Coastwatch (Chris Waller and Kerrin McEvoy) and Hilal (Hawkes Racing and Tommy Berry) fought out the Stan Fox Stakes last start with both stables also finishing 1-2 in last Saturday’s TAB Everest.
Cotehele for in-form trainer John O’Shea and jockey Sam Clipperton is at $6TAB followed by Royalzel at $9, trained by Gary Portelli with Jason Collett aboard.
Able Willie is a strong $2.30-$2.10 TAB favourite in The Listed $200,000 Daily Press Brian Crowley Stakes for trainer Chris Waller and jockey Kerrin McEvoy ahead of stablemate Zarastro ($5-$6) with Glyn Schofield aboard.
Jockey Jason Collett on the undefeated Battleton for trainer Bjorn Baker ($10) is looking to win a fourth Brian Crowley stakes in seven years and jockey Josh Parr ($26 for Matt Dunn) is shooting for a third consecutive win in the race.
Hawkes Racing and Tommy Berry team with ClubsNSW City Tattersalls Club Cup favourite Zeyrek ($2.60-$2.40) following a last start fourth in the Group 1 Heineken 3 Metropolitan.
