Winter Stakes To Heat Up Royal Randwick (Saturday)

The Listed $160,000 Robrick Lodge Winter Stakes headlines a 10-race card at Royal Randwick this Saturday as Australian Turf Club’s series of winter feature races continues towards the end of the racing season.

Champion trainer Chris Waller has three horses entered with Polly Grey ($34 on TAB), Longvillers ($12) and Brookspire ($12) his trio, while Warwick Farm mentor Annabel Neasham will saddle up Tamahere ($9) and recent import Matthew Flinders ($12).

TAB Fixed Odds sees Cotehele ($6-$6.50-$4.60) the favourite following the scratching of Brigantine. The Kosciuszko and Country Championships Final winner Art Cadeau ($16) is an interesting runner for trainer Terry Robinson.

A noted wet tracker who appreciates soft and heavy going, the six-year-old is one at odds to follow especially the track remains in the soft rating as it currently stands.

Another of the highlights on the track will be the seventh event on the card – the Vale Ray Selkrig Handicap (1100m).

Named in honour of one of Australia’s most popular and successful jockeys, it shapes to be an exciting clash as promising types Insurrection ($2.60 fav), Brudenell ($3.60) and Huon ($16) all do battle.

The race will also be doubling up as another important step in the Apprentice Jockeys' title as Dylan Gibbons and Zac Lloyd will partner Insurrection and Brudenell respectively.

Lloyd and Gibbons are locked in a titanic tussle for the premiership honours and both secured a riding double at last week’s main metropolitan meeting.

WINTER STAKES – FAST FACTS

• Brenton Avdulla is the most successful jockey with three wins (Bandersnatch 2021; Dreamforce 2018; Rugged Cross 2015)
• Just one female jockey (Jess Taylor, 2017 with Slightly Sweet) has won the race
• Leading apprentices Dylan Gibbons (Ucalledit) and Zac Lloyd (Brigantine) each have a ride in the race

Tickets for this Saturday and all Winter Season racedays are available for as low as $17 for Groups of 10 or more, with the Punters Pack available at $39.

Punters Packs are loaded with value and include one General Admission entry ticket, two Furphy vouchers, a $10 food voucher, and a racebook.
