Young Stars Racing A Golden Path In Randwick's $2m Inglis Millennium

The Australian Turf Club with leading thoroughbred auction house Inglis partner at Royal Randwick this Saturday for the fourth running of the $2 million Inglis Millennium for two-year-olds, ahead of the official start of Sydney’s world-class Autumn Racing Carnival.

A capacity field of 16 runners have accepted in Saturday’s feature race – headed in TAB markets by the unbeaten colt Sejardan ($3-$3.20 on TAB) – for former Longines Golden Slipper winning trainer Gary Portelli and jockey Jason Collett.

Saturday’s Listed race continues a series of pathway races towards the ultimate prize for two-year-olds, the $5 million Longines Golden Slipper at Rosehill Gardens on 19 March.

A percentage of prizemoney from the $2m Inglis Millennium, equal to a Sydney Listed race, will count towards qualifying prizemoney in the order of entry for the Longines Golden Slipper.

Peter and Paul Snowden who won the 2016 Longines Golden Slipper train the strongly supported second TAB favourite in filly Paris Dior ($5 -$3.80) with Sydney’s champion jockey James McDonald aboard.

El Padrino to be ridden by star Melbourne jockey Jamie Kah has also been well supported with TAB ($15-$10) for leading trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace. Stablemate Boldinho with Hugh Bowman aboard is $11-$10 on the same line of betting as the Chris Waller-trained Zambezi River ($9-$10) for jockey Josh Parr.

Bowman and Parr have both previously won an Inglis Millennium with Profiteer (2021) and Castelvecchio (inaugural running 2019) respectively.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering, James Ross said the $2m Inglis Millennium had quickly become an important pathway to the Longines Golden Slipper.

“We are again delighted to join with Inglis this Saturday for the Inglis Millenium in what is now considered amongst the principal two-year-old races in Sydney," Mr Ross said.

“This year’s renewal contains a number of exciting young horses such as Sejardan, already the winner of a Breeders' Plate and a Golden Gift and who is now targeting the Inglis Millennium ahead of the $5 million Longines Golden Slipper."

Inglis Bloodstock CEO Sebastian Hutch said: “We’re thrilled with the depth and quality of two-year-olds that will line up at Royal Randwick in the $2m Inglis Millennium.

“In just three short years this race has proven itself as a brilliant form reference with previous winners Castelvecchio, Prime Star and Profiteer all racing on to achieve more success on the track and in the case of Castelvecchio, already a stallion career.

“All three of those horses are graduates of our Classic Yearling Sale, which again begins at Riverside this coming Sunday morning as we look forward to a huge week-long festival for the racing and breeding industries."

Full fields for Saturday’s 10-race card featuring 137 acceptances are available HERE and TAB Fixed Odds markets for all races are available HERE.

Saturday’s Group 3 $160,000 Petaluma Eskimo Prince Stakes has also drawn together a cracking field of some of Sydney’s best three-year-olds, with 17 runners facing the starter.

Brilliant Godolphin sprinter Paulele a winner of five from 10 starts (including four wins from four race starts at Royal Randwick) is a strongly supported $4-$2.80 TAB favourite for trainer James Cummings and jockey Kerrin McEvoy.

Group 1 winner Converge for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and with Tim Clark aboard is $4.60-$5 in early TAB betting on Wednesday ahead of high-class Chris Waller runner Ranch Hand ($7.50) for James McDonald.

Silent Impact – another Waterhouse/Bott runner for jockey Regan Bayliss is at $8.
