The final meeting of the Kia Friday Night Racing Series at Canterbury Park will include a spectacular pony race for junior riders and a thrilling finish to a charity jockey series as part of a host of free entertainment and racing for families.
Ten young riders sponsored by a variety of racing industry bodies and participants will compete on Shetland ponies down the home straight between races 1 and 2 as part of a national series run by Pony Racing Australia.
Amongst the senior Sydney jockeys on Friday, the Quayclean Night Series concludes as riders compete for nominated charities on a 3-2-1 win and place basis.
Jason Collett riding for Humanity Matters leads on 31 points, ahead of Tim Clark (Heartbeat of Football) and Kerrin McEvoy (Lloyd McDermott Foundation) both on 27 points, followed by Tyler Schiller (Morris Children’s Fund) on 26 points.
Jockeys with the highest totals earn their allocated causes: $10,000 (leading rider), $5,000 (second high total) $3,500 (third highest) and $2,000 for each charity of the remaining riders.
ATC and leading Australian cleaning, hygiene and waste management firm Quayclean will together donate $36,500 to charities.
Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering Nevesh Ramdhani said the added entertainment of the pony race alongside food markets and free entertainment offered families and the local community a fitting end to the season.
“The junior riders and their ponies are a popular and spectacular sight down the home straight as part of a final night celebration of Kia Friday Night racing,’’ Mr Ramdhani said.
“We are also pleased to again partner with Quayclean as Sydney’s best jockeys do their bit for charities around the local community.
“Free entry and free children’s entertainment, an array of food markets and the chance to get up close with the racing action on the track combine for a final chance for customers to enjoy a fun and affordable Friday night in Sydney.’’
Gates for General Admission customers open at 5pm at Canterbury Park this Friday night with the first of seven races due to start at 5.55pm and the final event at 9pm.
