A euphoric Glen Boss has likened winning the third running of the $14 million The TAB Everest to the feeling of winning a third straight Melbourne Cup on Makybe Diva.

“That is an experience. That was one hell of an experience,” said Boss, a winner of 83 Group Ones.

“This is huge. What a feeling! This takes me back to 2005.

“That was very surreal. I had a very good plan in my head about what I wanted to do. Chris (Waller) was in my corner about how I wanted to ride the horse. I just wanted to be behind the grey horse (Classique Legend), somewhere around Nash (Rawiller), that was my plan.

“He was taking me everywhere I wanted to go. When I peeled out three and when I asked him, his turn of speed was of Group One quality only. Jeez he sprinted quickly. His sectionals will say that he did.”

The sectionals certainly do say that with Punters Intelligence revealing Yes Yes Yes exploded from the 400-200m clocking 10.51s, the quickest in the race, before running 11.23s for his last 200m. The son of Rubick stopped the clock at 32.61s for his last 600m.

Yes Yes Yes broke the Randwick 1200m track record running 1.07:32, shaving nearly a length off Santa Ana Lane’s previous mark of 1.07:45. Santa Ana Lane was game in defeat running second with Trekking rushing home into third. Arcadia Queen ran second last after presenting like the winner at the top of the straight.

“I was happy with the way she presented,” said Arcadia Queen’s jockey James McDonald, “She jumped well and got into a lovely position. I got a severe check at about the 300m mark and that put her out of business. Obviously she is a mare that needs a bit of space to wind into her race.”

Chris Waller was rewarded for his faith in Yes Yes Yes running the Coolmore-owned three-year-old in his own slot, Chris Waller Racing. It was the first year Waller has had a runner in the feature sprint, and the champion trainer also prepared the fourth-placed Nature Strip.

“There is so much at risk. You have to go to the owners in Coolmore plus the original owners as he wasn’t my horse. You have to suggest it can win an Everest, you can’t say you’re going to run second and third. Then you have to go to the slotholders to choose it,” said Waller.

“To tell you the truth it was an amazing feeling. Where we’ve been with Winx, where she took us has set us up for days like this. She took us on an emotional ride.

“These are the best sprinters in Australia. People want to see them run two weeks beforehand. It’s not just about one race. That is why (The TAB Everest) will really go ahead.”
