Classy galloper Laure Me In To Claim Wyong Gold Cup

By Gary Harley

The $200,000 Listed Carlton Wyong Gold Cup (2100m) highlights an outstanding race meeting at Wyong on Friday.

The track is expected to be rated a Good 4, the rail is True and New South Wales' leading jockeys will be riding. The Cup as expected is a wide open affair with many chances.

Laure Me In is a classy stayer with sound credentials and the new father Jason Collett has the mount. He rode the 7yo when he won the Premiers Cup Prelude at Kembla on August 14.

Laure Me In won the Scone Cup in May, was beaten 1.2 lengths in the Ipswich Cup in June and was runner up in a close finish in the Grafton Cup in July. Matthew Dunn trains the stayer and he races best on good rated tracks.

Berdibek came from a long way back to win the Hawkesbury Rowley Mile last start.

The Victorian Inverloch was only beaten a length in the Premiers Cup last Saturday and he is an on pacer.

English stayer Dashing Willoughby is having his first start for Chris Waller. The 6 year old won a recent Rosehill trial. Waller has four runners in the Cup.

The Listed Wyong Leagues Group Mona Lisa Stakes (1350m) for the fillies and mares is the main support race. Local trainer Kim Waugh trains the favourite Great News and the bonnie mare has a great chance.

From eleven starts the mares race record stands at 5 wins and 6 placings. She never got on the track when narrowly beaten at Randwick on August 21. The only negative is the wide barrier however her pilot Josh Parr is in great form.

More Prophets was very good winning at Randwick last start. Charleise has won three of her last five and she has the rails barrier.

RACE 1 PRIORITY BUSINESS LAWYERS MAIDEN PLATE 1350M: Different Strokes had a tough run when beaten half a length at Hawkesbury recently. That was only his second start after he was placed at Newcastle on debut. He was three wide no cover at Hawkesbury and fought on strong. McDonald rode the 4 year old last start and he has the mount. Stay Wealthy is trialling well and Silver Scissors had no luck last start.
SELECTIONS: 4 DIFFERENT STROKES, 5 STAY WEALTHY, 10 SILVER SCISSORS

RACE 2 WINNING COMMERCIAL MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200M: Amathuba is a speedy filly with her foot on the till. Both her race starts have been at Newcastle where she was placed in both. The filly led in strong races and was nailed late down the long Newcastle straight. The shorter straight will suit. Ruinart resumes after a brilliant Randwick trial win. Arbitration led all the way to win a recent trial.
SELECTIONS: 7 AMATHUBA, 11 RUINART, 9 ARBITRATION

RACE 3 CENTRAL COAST COOLROOMS DA VINCI B/M 64 1300M: Akihiro’s only win was on this track in April. The colt resumed with a close second in a good Class 1 at Kembla and last start on the Kenso he got a long way back and worked home okay. This horse raced in the Black Opal and Pierro earlier this year. Previso is a smart country galloper with a chance while Seduction Queen won a recent trial easily.
SELECTIONS: 3 AKIHERO  5 PREVISO,  6 SEDUCTION QUEEN

RACE 4 BISHOP COLLINS BENCHMARK 64 1600M; Socrates goes up to a more suitable trip second up and Bowman rides. He made ground from a long way back over 1300 metres at Hawkesbury first up. His only win was over 1600 and this is a winnable race. Nishikori is enjoying a good prep with a win at Ballina and placings at Grafton and Eagle Farm. Chateaux Park comes back in trip but he will be storming home.
SELECTIONS: 2 SOCRATES, 1 NISHIKORI, 4 CHATEAUX PARK

RACE 5 HUNTER PETROLEUM CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1100M: Jaytees is very quick and he broke through for his first win at Gunnedah last start for his new trainer. It was a much inferior field than this one but he won by 4 lengths hard held. From 15 starts he has the one win and 11 placings. He has placed in better fields. Bullet Rider is first up and is trialling well and Torun is a good fresh horse.
SELECTIONS: 6 JAYTEES, 5 BULLET RIDER, 1 TORUN

RACE 6 WYONG LEAGUES GROUP MONA LISA STAKES 1350M: Great News is a quality mare with the record of 5 wins and 6 placings from 11 starts. She was never on the track when a close second first-up at Randwick on August 21. The mare is a winner on this track and she has a good second-up record. More Prophets was a good winner second-up at Randwick recently and McDonald rides. Charleise is in great form and has the rails barrier.
SELECTIONS: 3 GREAT NEWS, 12 MORE PROPHETS, 2 CHAREISE

RACE 7 CARLTON WYONG GOLD CUP (2100M): Laure Me In has a great chance in a quality Cup with chances galore. He hadn’t raced for five weeks when he won The Premiers Cup Prelude at Kembla last start. He has had a long and successful campaign. In May he won the Scone Cup before 1¼ lengths from the winner in the Ipswich Cup. In July he was runner up in the Grafton Cup. Berdibek won the Hawkesbury Rowley Mile last start and Inverloch win run well.
SELECTIONS: 4 LAURE ME IN, 5 BERDIBEK, 3 INVERLOCH
