Royal Randwick hosts the highest rated horse in the world – Sydney’s mighty mare Winx – on Day 2 of The Championships – Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day this Saturday, 14 April.
Winx is aiming for her 25th straight win in the Group 1 $4 million Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes, one of four Group 1 races on the day and part of more than $10 million in prizemoney to be won on the track on the second day of the Grand Finals of Australian racing..
A Winx victory in the Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes will equal the remarkable 25 winning streak of Australia’s superstar sprinter Black Caviar.
Winx is the $1.15 TAB Fixed Odds favourite in a strong Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes field, which includes Irish visitor Success Days ($34.00 TAB Fixed Odds), trained by Ken Condon.
One of Sydney’s favourite gallopers Happy Clapper is $16.00 TAB Fixed Odds after his dominant win in last week’s The Star Doncaster Mile.
The Group 1 $2 million Schweppes Sydney Cup has attracted a huge 20-horse field, headed by former Melbourne Cup winner Almandin ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds).
The 3200m event includes Japanese visitor Pre Stwick ($12.00 Fixed Odds), to be ridden by star international jockey Joao Moreira.
Sydney’s premier trainer Chris Waller has three runners, including crowd favourite Who Shot Thebarman ($15.00 TAB Fixed Odds), in a field which includes runners from across Australia and New Zealand.
Waller’s filly Unforgotten ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds) heads the market in the Group 1 $1 million James Boag’s Premium Australian Oaks, while Ron Quinton’s glamour mares Dixie Blossoms ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds) and Daysee Doom ($8.00 Fixed Odds) leads the betting in a wide open Group 1 $1 million Coolmore Legacy Stakes.

Fashion forward guests are encouraged to part take in the ‘Harrolds Fashion Chute’ to win a share in a prize pool consisting of a Vogue Fashion Night Out VIP experience, Harrolds VIP styling sessions, a Longines watch and more.
Contestants can register between 10am and 1pm at the ‘Harrolds Fashion Chute’ photowall on the Octagonal Lawn or in the Members Reserve with the winner selected by a panel of experts including milliner Nerida Winter, Vogue Australia Market Editor Kaila Matthews and Owner and Director of Harrolds Mary Poulakis.
Contestants that register at the Harrolds Fashion Chute will also be eligible to win the coveted Longines Prize for Elegance (registrations closing at 12.45pm). The award will be judged by Jesinta Franklin, Stella Fashion Editor Sarrah Le Marquand, Longines VP Sales Charles Belloz and General Manager of Longines Australia Amelia Michael with the winner receiving a Longines Conquest Classic Timepiece valued at $3000.
Fashion Illustrators Alexandra Nea and Steph Baynie will be available to capture some of the best looks of the day and will be creating illustrations for first 40 patrons to have their photo taken at the Harrolds Fashion Chute.
All patrons can access some of the best gourmet street food by Trinhy’s Vietnamese, Chur Burger, Nathan’s Hotdogs, Hard Style Kitchen, Greek Street Santos and Caminitos at the Truckstop behind the QEII Grandstand.
The Leger Lawn will provide an array of pop-up bars from Chandon S, Heineken 3 Trackside Lounge, Canadian Club Giddy Up Club Marquee and the Schweppes and Pimms Cocktail Garden. The precinct will have live DJs and entertainment throughout the afternoon.
Racegoers can take advantage of free event transport which is included with all valid pre-purchased tickets and ATC Members cards to ensure a hassle free arrival and departure from Royal Randwick.
The first race on Saturday is at 11.25am and last race at 5.05pm. Gates open at 10.15am.
