Trainer Brad Widdup has made a flying start to the season and his returning mare Colours Of Autumn can continue his stable's hot form at Kembla Grange on Saturday.

Widdup has had seven winners and 15 placings from 16 starters to begin the new campaign and heads to Illawarra Turf Club with a trio of contenders across the card.

Colours Of Autumn ($4.20 equal favourite on TAB)  is his stable's best in the Markey Saddlery Provincial Benchmark 64 Handicap (1200m).

The daughter of The Autumn Sun is returning from a spell after being tested in stakes grade during her three-year-old season.

"Colours Of Autumn has trialled up well and is in good order," Widdup said. "I think she is a nice filly.

"I am very hopeful she can be a nice mare for the stable for a couple of years.

"She will get better as she gets older I think. She is not a big filly but she is slowly developing."

Colours Of Autumn ran 12th in the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic in March while stablemate Noble Tess failed to beat a runner home in the same event.

Noble Tess went for a spell after struggling in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) but has matured since then and Widdup is expecting an improved effort in her return.

The daughter of Lonhro lines up in the Price Racing Champion Trainer Class 1 (1500m) where she will be partnered by Alysha Collett and is a $8.50 chance.

"Noble Tess seems to be going good," Widdup said. "She obviously has a really good pedigree and probably hasn't lived up to it yet.

"We tested her in better company as a three-year-old filly and things didn't go her way a few times and she threw in a few shockers too.

"I have been happy with her this time through, she seems a bit stronger and hopefully she can run well."

Tenbury Wells is Widdup's third galloper to make his spring return with the lightly-raced colt contesting the Headstock Horse Of The Year Maiden Plate (1400m).

The son of Fastnet Rock missed the placing in his four starts as a two-year-old, including finishing seventh in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes in April.

Apprentice Braith Nock will pilot Tenbury Wells ($15).

"I expect Tenbury Wells to run well," Widdup said. "He seems to be going well, he is a lot stronger and switched on now.

"Hopefully he can put a good performance in and I think he's a horse that's definitely going OK as well."
