What You Missed - Rosehill 9th December

Smart Youngsters To Follow
To the victor belongs the spoils. Gongs is certainly a ready made two-year-old but track the second and third horses – Orcien and Charge. Both trained by Chris Waller.

Orcien, who is out of Zabeel mare Zupurple, simply found the 1100m too short. The same can be said for his debut behind Secret Lady. He is a half-brother to Darren Weir’s filly Anchor Bid who has won her two races at 1600m and 1800m.

“He’s a lovely little horse and he’ll be better again next preparation,” his jockey Josh Parr reported post-race.

Wait for him to get out to 1400m and possibly with the blinkers applied.

For Zoustar colt Charge, he raced exactly as he did in his only trial, missing the start and having the tendency to overdo things.

“He definitely lived up to his name,” said jockey Tim Clark, “That’s all he wanted to do early but he just needs to settle and he’ll make a nice horse.”

Gongs "did it both ends"

To Heliosphere And Back
How brave was Heliosphere.

The colt, who was well supported into $2.30 with TAB, was left posted throughout and only went down by 0.2L to Sparky Lad.

The Punters’ Intel sectionals tell an interesting story with Heliosphere. He ran 11.33s between the 600-400m compared to the 11.39s of Sparky Lad. Then between the 400-200m Sparky Lad posted 11.02 with Heliosphere clocking 11.17 however that’s when Heliosphere’s ticker kicked in, clocking 11.41s for the final 200m compared to the only marginally better 11.39s of Sparky Lad.

Unfortunately for punters they don't pay for bring brave but stick with the son of Sebring out to the mile next time.

As for Kerrin McEvoy’s thoughts he succinctly said, “Good run. He was just beaten by the barrier.”

Mister Sea Wolf Gets Villiers Nod
Invinzabeel is a “smart horse on his day” according to Charlie Duckworth and has now won two on the bounce but don’t expect to see the Chris Waller stable tempted into backing him up in the G2 Villiers Stakes next week at Randwick.

“I think he gets found out over a stiff mile,” Duckworth said.

The stable will be represented by import Mister Sea Wolf, who ran a narrow second in the Festival Stakes on his Australian debut, and possiblyTorgersen.

“(Mister Sea Wolf) galloped really well this morning in company. Just cruised up and he is a very tractable horse. Often our Europeans have faults and chinks in their armour but he seems to be faultless. He switches off, handles most conditions and has his fair share of ability,” said Duckworth.

“Torgersen might come down from Queensland. He is in good shape and races better fresh.”

Parr Lippy About Liapari
“Keep an eye on him.”

That was Josh Parr’s advice to punters about Liapari after his return.

The form guide will tell the story of a non-descript seventh but Parr liked what he felt from the five-year-old gelding.

Punters' Intel reveals that Liapari ran 11.43, 11.18, 11.68 (34.29s last 600m) for his last three splits, blowing out over the concluding stages.

The sectionals also tell the story for Flow who spent too many early carrots. He was forced to work hard between the 1000m and 800m running a 10.96s split. That told at the finish. His effort was admirable to be beaten less than a length.
