Nic Has No Second Up Vendetta
It’ll be a while, but keep this in the top pocket for the next time Nic’s Vendetta comes back into work – all four of his wins have been second up.
That trend continued on Saturday with the Todd Howlett-trained gelding picking up the day’s Highway Handicap.
“Maybe I should be putting him back out,” Howlett said with a laugh after his second up record was highlighted.
That won’t be happening though with the five-year-old likely to be seen next in midweek company, now he is ineligible for Highways after winning his fourth race.
It was a brilliantly judged ride from apprentice Mikayla Weir to ease and take a sit behind Ori On Fire, and the gelding stopped the clock at a lightning 1:08.40s.
“He is one of a kind and been the horse that has got my career where it is. After the rise I knew I had him,” Weir said, who is now only one win away from outriding her country claim.
“I needed that win at this point in my career to keep kicking along.”
Parr For The Randwick Course
Anatola broke Deploy’s Randwick 1200m track record on Saturday and the common link is that both were ridden by Josh Parr. The new mark is 1:08:03s.
“He’s the track record breaker, that’s why we put him on!” joked Mark Newnham.
“Fast jockey, fast horse and he gets the right result. It was my plan to bring her to this race and then target a couple of Listed races in Queensland for her.”
Anatola raced outside of the leader Handfast and when Parr pressed the button approaching the 300m the mare had a brilliant burst of acceleration. She ran her last 600m in 32.97s via Punters’ Intel.
“Exceptional turn of foot and she put them to sleep very quickly,” Parr said.

Tim Bailey Enjoying The Trip
Channel 10 weather presented Tim Bailey is an excitable character at the best of times but he was understandably thrilled to see Moss Trip, who he part owns, claim the JHB Carr Stakes.
“This bloke (Peter Snowden) here has the best vision in Australian racing,” Bailey gushed.
“He is such a professional, beautiful bloke. But his vision, his planning is second to nothing and he has given an enormous amount of people an enormous amount of joy. You’ve been bloody fantastic.”
Snowden added, “Her form has been fantastic for a while and that Surround run was amazing so it’s a great bunch of owners who’ll get a great thrill out of that.”
“I was blowing up at the start thinking she’d lost her chance there but to her credit because it’s hard to come from the back.”
“She’s a little winner and that’s all you can ask.”@KPMcEvoy after getting Moss Trip home for a very happy ownership group including @dailybailey10! pic.twitter.com/izqOkwvpwb

Godolphin Looking To Add Wagga Cup To Tally
After Tally had just scored impressively in the JRA Plate the attention turned to what was next for the five-year-old and James Cummings flagged the Wagga Gold Cup (2000m).
"We might try and win the Wagga Cup with him. We’ll see. There are a few options but I do like the idea," Cummings said.
"He’s been going alright at home and we’ve just mixed things up with him, his gear and his work, and brought him here very fit. He’s deep into his campaign now but it’s great to see the old boy recapture a little bit of form."
Race favourite Arbeitsam missed the start and his race was as good as over after 20m. Punter’s Intel reveals he ran a 11.09s from the 600-400m, making late ground so the run was full of merit under the circumstances.
“He just popped up as they opened and then walked out,” Adam Hyeronimus explained.
