Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 5th March

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a soft track.

Race 1 - 1:45PM CHASE THE DREAM HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

5. Grand Eagle has had a good grounding for a debut with two trials in February and looked the part scoring an easy win in the second of them at Rosehill a couple of weeks ago. Draws to be prominent and he should give a good account.

Dangers: 7. Wisnierska beat The Magic Man on debut then stepped up in grade and ran a cheeky race behind Pallaton at Randwick where she sat wide and boxed on for third. Nice recent trial and has to be respected. 6. Kilman has had a few trials and looked to be stoking up well late in the latest of them. Have to be wary with James McDonald stepping on board. 4. Farnished has been on speed in his two recent trials with seconds in both. Should put himself up there and don’t underestimate.

How to play it: Grand Eagle WIN ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 2:20PM DRINKWISE MILE (1600 METRES)

1. Polymnia was a drifter in betting first-up over 1400m two weeks ago and was only warming up at the finish when running into second. Fitter for it and the mile suits, main query is where she gets to from the barrier this time but with even luck should go close.

Dangers: 4. Majorca Sunset comes through the same race where he was favourite and did appear to have his chance in the run in finishing fourth. Did have an excuse or two having lost a shoe so is entitled to another chance. 3. Bendrodt has been honest with placings in his past three. No match for the first two at Rosehill last week but the winner does look smart. Has a show. 2. In And Out ran a nice race on debut at Newcastle then just plodded in that race at Warwick Farm where Polymnia was second. Extra ground should help but place looks best.

How to play it: Polymnia WIN ($1.85 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 2:55PM THE AGENCY REAL ESTATE HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

7. Brigidine Gal comes through what look a strong race at Warwick Farm a couple of weeks ago and she did run on well when it was all over. Fitter for it and while coming back 100m she’s drawn nicely and if they overdo it up front she’ll be there to pounce. Go well.

Dangers: 1. Istolea Merc is an up comer who has knuckled down strongly to win his last two at Nowra. Handled the drop of 100m in his stride last start and there’s no reason he couldn’t go on with it up marginally in class to a BM64. 2. Koios broke through at Scone in easy style before a closing second at Canterbury. Draw should see him settle a bit closer this time around and he’s one of the main chances. 5. Written Gold started long odds-on at his debut at was untroubled leading all the way at Wyong in mid-February. Will push forward from the wide gate and could easily measure up.

How to play it: Brigidine Gal EACH-WAY ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 3:30PM PINATUBO FIRST YEARLINGS HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

4. Admitted has won two from three and was rested after an easy win at Kembla back in October off an 11 month break. Can’t fault his recent trial, draws one and James McDonald rides. Both wins have come when first-up and he should be hard to beat.

Dangers: 2. Wondereach is much better than what he showed at Moonee Valley last time and it’s worth forgiving on the strength of his consistent efforts over this track and trip in three prior runs. Claim a plus and is capable of featuring. 5. Metallic Ruler has his first start for Bjorn Baker and he’s trialled up quite well on two occasions. Has won at the 1000m but that was on debut, he could find this a bit slick but wouldn’t be leaving him out. 7. Ride The River disappointed at Wyong but bounced back with a handy second here two weeks ago where he swept to the lead and was run down late. Can give a sight.

How to play it: Admitted WIN ($1.95 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 4:05PM ASAHI SUPER DRY HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

3. Iconic Treasure likely found the 1100m a touch sharp when resuming but he did warm up late to be beaten under two lengths. Unbeaten second-up and all three wins have come at this trip so he’s nicely placed to be right in the finish.

Dangers: 1. So Good So Cool gets the blinkers on after an even third at Canterbury, this third placing from four runs back. How barrier nine is approached will be interesting but he doesn’t have to improve a lot to win. 9. Tenderize led all the way to win that race at Canterbury and stays down in the weights after the claim. Will go forward and should be at his peak so can’t be overlooked. 2. Desiah hasn’t fired in two runs this preparation so has been given a break since her failure at Randwick in early January. Is better than that and won at her only start at Warwick Farm. No public trials so keep an eye on betting.

How to play it: Iconic Treasure WIN ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 4:40PM CASINO PRINCE @ VINERY STUD HANDICAP (2110 METRES)

10. Sting In The Tail was pretty much a good thing beaten at Canterbury a couple of weeks ago, she was badly squeezed up and almost fell in the first 50m and settled well back before going down narrowly. Gets weight relief for a modest class rise and sure to take holding out.

Dangers: 3. Seven’s made a promising local debut with a closing third over a mile at this track about six weeks ago. Was a late scratching from a recent meeting here which isn’t ideal but he will appreciate getting out over more ground. Keep in mind. 9. Philipsburg broke through over this course for a strong win two weeks ago, defying a major betting drift. Usually runs an honest race and wouldn’t shock if he landed somewhere in the finish. 1. Jack Duggan raced on speed and tried hard when run down by Philipsburg. Winner at Scone prior with a big weight and is one of the chances again.

How to play it: Sting In The Tail WIN ($3.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 5:15PM TAB HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

2. Cool Jakey had good support second-up at Randwick but had cardiac arrhythmia and dropped right out. Unbeaten in three runs at this track and any rain around would be right in his favour. If he’s going to bounce back then this is the right scenario.

Dangers: 6. Panic will be fitter for two runs back and has stayed on pretty well to be just behind the placings in both. Drawn out again but it’s not such a big deal at this starting point and he’ll put himself on the speed. Can’t be ignored. 10. Rolling Magic found the line with plenty of purpose late when resuming at Newcastle in a handy form race. Extra 150m looks in his favour and he’s well worth including in the chances. 7. Emmadella has been a bit disappointing since winning a Midway at Randwick in late December but her last start at Hawkesbury was solid in a Championships Qualifier. At her best she can win this.

How to play it: Cool Jakey EACH-WAY ($8.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 8 - 5:50PM PROVEN THOROUGHBREDS HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

8. Up To Mischief looks a good each-way chance on the back of a closing second at Canterbury last time out. She’s racing honestly without winning so far this prep and has the option to roll over from the wide gate and get onto the speed. If that happens she’ll be in the finish again.

Dangers: 6. Just Glamourous led all the way and gripped on when resuming at Canterbury a week earlier over 1250m. Fitter for that, will be in the firing line again and has to be respected. 3. Makena is first-up from a Melbourne campaign in the late spring and has had the one sharp public trial over 740m. Gate one and James McDonald on at 1400m fresh makes her a little dangerous. Keep safe. 10. Monkhana was quite impressive scoring first-up at Hawkesbury over this trip. She has to back that up but worth including in the chances.

How to play it: Up To Mischief EACH-WAY ($7.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
