Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 2nd April

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a soft to heavy track.

Race 1 - 1:45PM FIND YOUR OZZMOSIS @ THE CHASE HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

6. Ohope drew wide and sat handy before weakening in the G2 Sires’ at Flemington almost a month ago. Freshened and trialled quietly at Hawkesbury recently. Back in class and looks a good chance.

Dangers: 9. Just A Journey is on debut after a couple of recent trials where she wasn’t asked for a lot over the shorter trips. Bred to love this sort of trip fresh and is one to keep an eye on. 8. I Am Overs debuted with a close third in a small field at Gosford a couple of weeks ago. Likely improver on that and is in the mix. 2. Gaeilge hasn't yet lived up to early promise but gave a sight when third at Newcastle behind Buffalo after leading.

How to play it: Ohope WIN ($3.30 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 2:20PM HYLAND RACE COLOURS PLATE (1300 METRES)

1. Engine Room looks a promising type and he comes through a strong maiden from back in October where he split Snitzanova and Brigidine Gal at Kensington. Trialling well and if he handles the ground he will be a major player.

Dangers: 9. She Rex hasn’t done a lot wrong in her three starts for as many placings at the end of last year. Muswellbrook trial winner a couple of weeks ago and is capable of showing up. 7. Manukau was a shade disappointing on debut but improved with a closing second at Hawkesbury last time out. Still on the up and a wet track might be a plus. 3. Now Is The Hour us on the way up and has been right in the market in his two runs back. Extra trip might suit him now.

How to play it: Engine Room WIN ($2.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 2:55PM VINNIE - THREE TIME CHAMPION SIRE HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

12. Modella is straight out of maiden company but she couldn’t have been any more impressive showing a sharp dash to score easily at Kembla back in late January. Placed here on a wet track on debut. Given a quiet lead in trial and should run well.

Dangers: 9. California Sunrise hasn’t finished worse than fourth in seven starts and while best is probably at 1400m plus she can run a race fresh. Both recent trials have been at 1030m and have to keep her safe. 8. Linwood wasn’t fancied in betting at her only start but swept home to win on a heavy track here back in July. Given some time and while 1200m likely short of her best this prep she could show up. 6. Tuned raced handy when resuming at Wyong and was a little flat late when fourth. Sting out of the track likely to be a plus and is open to improvement.

How to play it: Modella WIN ($3.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 3:30PM HAWAII FIVE OH @ VINERY STUD HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

5. Dr Evil ran about as well as he can on a dry track coming off a seven week break at Hawkesbury, running into third. Loves a wet track and around the mile is his sweet spot so he has to be a good each-way chance in an open race.

Dangers: 2. Arqana was a solid favourite at Flemington a month ago and didn’t really make an impact, staying about midfield all the way. Never won on a good track so the conditions will suit her this time and has to be forgiven. 7. Imposing Pier looked the winner when he darted through on the inside at Hawkesbury last time only to be nailed on the line. Consistent type who can be around the mark again. 8. Inferencia is in career best form and is in line for a hat-trick after leading all the way in a Midway at Rosehill. Has a show.

How to play it: Dr Evil EACH-WAY ($9.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 4:05PM PINATUBO FIRST YEARLINGS HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

7. Mawjood ran up to what was expected at Kensington three weeks ago and scored a solid win over this trip. Has won on a heavy so softer ground isn’t an issue and while a short priced favourite he’s the one to beat again.

Dangers: 5. Poppin’ Champagne didn’t have a lot of luck after a first-up win last preparation and is an interesting runner. Two quiet trials, drawn to do no work, she could be a surprise packet. 1. Little Beginnings is racing well and just finding one better of late with a string of seconds. Tried hard to chase down the leader at Wyong last time, handles all ground and should be around the mark again. 8. Gold Pattern disappointed at Newcastle second-up but did draw wide and raced back, not getting into the race at all. Was racing well last prep and a softer track is a plus. Could be a big improver.

How to play it: Mawjood WIN ($1.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 4:40PM COGBURN WORLD'S FASTEST HORSE @ WIDDEN 2025 (2200 METRES)

4. Be Real has her share of weight but she’s going to love getting back onto a softer track after two eye-catching runs in Group 3 mares company since a break. No issues with the trip and she should be right in the finish now third-up in this class.

Dangers: 8. Marama is the big watch of the race first-up for William Haggas. She’s only raced four times for a win over 2112m on a soft track at Chester in September. Check the betting for a pointer. 3. Father’s Day has just come back a notch off his excellent effort first-up at a mile but getting to 2200m now will be right up his alley. Likely leader and could take running down. 1. Lincoln Rocks improved quickly second-up for a strong finishing third behind King Of Thunder at Rosehill. Has won at this trip and adept in all conditions so is one of the chances.

How to play it: Be Real WIN ($3.60 TAB Fixed Odds).

Be Real runs fourth at Rosehill on March 22

Race 7 - 5:15PM BUY AN ARROWFIELD YEARLING HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

3. Perspiration hasn’t raced since he ran down Gatsby’s to win at Listed level back in September. No public trials but has been in work for some time given he’s been scratched from dry tracks of late. Gets a wet one here and looks hard to beat.

Dangers: 6. Zealously strung three wins together before he ran a gallant fourth behind Private Harry and Lady Of Camelot at the Sunshine Coast back in January. Trial winner last week and the only query on him is the softer track. 2. Confess Our Dreams is right back in class after a fair effort fresh at Group 3 mares level a month ago. Since won a trial and her best is good enough to have her in the finish. 1. Wondereach is hard to fault as he chases a hat-trick following a win here and another as favourite at Wyong two weeks ago. Creeping up in the weights but sure to give a good account.

How to play it: Perspiration WIN ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 8 - 5:50PM VALE HELEN FOLEY HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

15. Heat Missile was never in danger when leading all the way to an easy first-up win at Kembla Grange. Draws wide here but it’s a kind start and she’ll be able to cruise across onto the speed. Doesn’t appear 1400m will be an issue and she can measure up.

Dangers: 10. Good Sort ran a nice race first-up at this track and distance before sitting handy on a quick tempo when a fading tenth at Group 3 level last time. Forgive that, she can be in the finish of this. 5. Makena made a handy return over this course a month ago running third behind Art Volant. Fitter for it, both wins have been second-up and she’s an each-way chance at least. 19. Magnucat has been racing honestly without winning this time in and hit the line well from last at Kembla when runner-up three weeks ago. Placed at Canterbury on a soft 6 three runs back and has each-way claims.

How to play it: Heat Missile WIN ($3.80 TAB Fixed Odds).
