Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 21st August

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a soft track.

Race 1 - 1:25PM JAMES SQUIRE HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

8. Pinito it’s fair to say had her chance as favourite first-up here three weeks ago but perhaps getting out in distance will be the key. Fitter for that run and while up in weight she should be able to flow into this race nicely and be in the finish.

Dangers: Big watch on 6. Rasp resuming as a gelding since a pretty handy effort behind star colt Broadsiding in the Fernhill back in April. Two quiet trials haven’t given anything away and he could be dangerous fresh at this trip. 9. Qatars Choice, a bit like Pinito, had her chance on debut at this track at the same meeting boxing on to run a close third. Perhaps she’s looking for a good track but is certainly bred to handle more ground. Respect. 1. Conchiero didn’t have a lot of support on debut but gave a big right when run down late at Wyong over 1100m. Imagine he will go forward again and is worth including in the chances.

How to play it: Pinito WIN ($2.40 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 2:00PM TAB HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

4. Enriched showed a lot of promise leading into his debut back in February where he had support and loomed in the Pierro Plate before pulling up shinshore. Given time and a couple more nice trials he’ll get every opportunity to put his best foot forward.

Dangers: 3. Celerity was thrown in the deep end a bit also in her first prep finishing behind the placings in the Lonhro and Silver Slipper. Not extended in her latest trial and she looks the logical danger. 1. Monte Veebee is another promising type who was rested after a close second in the Clarendon at the Hawkesbury Cup meeting in May. No doubt 1100m will be short of his best but you’d expect him to be hitting the line strongly. 2. Innervisions might have bumped into a handy one first-up when run down by Visual at Hawkesbury as a well supported favourite. Has upside and JMac so stays under notice.

How to play it: Enriched EACH-WAY ($8.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 2:35PM OLE KIRK FIRST YEARLINGS HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

7. Imperial Force is back for his second campaign after showing ability with a runaway win at Canterbury at his second start. Probably didn’t relish the heavy at Newcastle last time out. Held together in his lead up trial, draws nicely and is entitled to be hard to beat.

Dangers: 6. Edited By won successive Newcastle races at 1400m in March before a handy effort in Listed company. Returns as a gelding with a couple of trial, draws just inside the favourite and has a case to run well. 5. Pasima hasn’t done a whole lot wrong bar a Group 3 failure on a heavy track, which you can forgive him for. Hard to get a guide on his trial beaten 12 lengths by Our Kobison but that’s a different level. Keep in mind. 1. Hanau has had a couple of runs in Melbourne where he’s been right in the market and run on to be on the placegetters’ heels. Can feature here.

How to play it: Imperial Force WIN ($2.70 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 3:10PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

9. Bonita Queen found the front first-up at Canterbury and was stalked by the winner before relenting late. Had good support there and can only be fitter, drops in weight and likely to be right on speed again. Should be harder to run down this time.

Dangers: 8. Ragga Ragga found her barrier trial form when leading all the way to a breakthrough maiden win here three weeks ago. The form will be tested a bit earlier on this card, if she can back that performance up she’s a good chance. 6. Monte Kate went for a break on the back of an easy Kembla Grange win at the end of May. No public trials but she’s honest and can run well fresh. 2. Lovero usually runs well first-up and did win under those circumstances last time in. Drawn to be right there and must be considered.

How to play it: Bonita Queen WIN ($2.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 3:45PM RANVET HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

12. House Of Cards resumed as a gelding and didn’t ever look like being beaten as he coasted to an easy win at Hawkesbury a few weeks ago. Nicely drawn to stalk again and if he’s gone up a notch as it appears he’s a major player.

Dangers: 8. Yorkshire will provide some serious competition on the back up from an all the way win at Kensington last week. Responded when challenged and put a nice margin on them late. Smart and should be right in the finish. 7. The Replicant is also on the back up after running on for an even third last Wednesday. Been favourite his past couple and while not winning them he’s always competitive so goes in the mix. 5. True To Form is an interesting runner coming off an Australian debut win at Kembla a month ago. Might have bumped into a strong race here so it’ll be interesting to see how he measures up.

How to play it: House Of Cards WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 4:20PM BLUE POINT @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

11. Another Cognac might get last call at them in a race that is stacked with noted leaders so there should be pace to allow him to run on. Gelded going into this prep and has a smart finish on his day, look for him to be hitting the line strongly.

Dangers: 1. Mafia was far too good racing clear late for an easy Kembla win over this trip on July 27. Down 3kg with the claim and if he can react to the pace that should unfold here he can measure up. 7. Elegant Empress ran a nice race here first-up then probably a shade disappointing behind Lost here on July 31. Entitled to another chance. 14. Split Decision has a good fresh record albeit in easier races and comes into this after two trials including a nice closing fourth here in the latest. No surprise to see her make an impact.

How to play it: Another Cognac WIN ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 4:55PM TOYOTA FORKLIFTS HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

7. Influential might have been run down over this course three weeks ago but he was six weeks between runs and hit the lead a fair way out. Rallied late when the winner got past and he can only be fitter for that. No harder here, drawn ideally and every chance to go one better.

Dangers: 9. Captain Maverick might have run last at his Australian debut but he wasn’t disgraced just four lengths behind Medatsu at Rosehill in a sprint home. Fitter for it and likely he’ll be a big improver. 2. All In The Mind was a beaten favourite in the Forbes Cup in a well below par performance given he was so strong late in winning at Canterbury third-up. Have to give him the benefit of the doubt. 5. Campaldino is the wild card here first-up for the Waterhouse/Bott stable. Both New Zealand wins came in heavy ground. Betting a good pointer.

How to play it: Influential WIN ($3.10 TAB Fixed Odds).
