Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 19th February

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a good track.

Race 1 - 2:20PM FIND YOUR NEXT G1w @ THE CHASE PLATE (1100 METRES)

5. Napoleonic is shaping up well at the trials and stretched out nicely to win at his second at this track last week. Draws the inside so every chance to get an economical run and he should be competitive on debut.

Dangers: 2. Congressman trialled back in November then reappeared two weeks ago and ran a handy second behind Shyhook, who ran well last Saturday, at Rosehill. Cost $575,000 as a yearling, drawn well and is a good chance. 3. King Of Pop had a couple of trials back in November before also returning at Rosehill two weeks ago where he ran a close fourth in a 900m heat. Can make a case for him. 1. Burma Star has the race experience and is back in class from the Canonbury where he started $2.50 favourite. Fair to say he was a shade disappointing there after having a nice run. Blinkers go on so he can improve.

How to play it: Napoleonic EACH-WAY ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 2:55PM HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP (2140 METRES)

4. Seven’s ran right up to some support at odds when he made his Australian debut with a closing third over a mile at this track last month. Winner has since run well on a Saturday. Much better suited to this sort of trip and he should be harder to beat.

Dangers: 3. Smart Legend just managed to hold them off over 1900m at Canterbury last time to make it two from his last three. Races handy and sure to be around the mark again. 6. Kirikan comes through that same race where he boxed on well for third without threatening. Strike rate a worry but he’s an each-way chance again. 1. Jack Duggan was strong on the line winning over 2200m at Scone under 61kg. Capable of showing up.

How to play it: Seven’s WIN ($2.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 3:30PM CAPTIVANT @ KIA ORA HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

7. Jacob’s Ladder produced quite an eye-catching debut over 1100m here a few weeks ago suggesting the extra ground will be right up his alley. Been back to the trials for win last week and he should be hard to hold out.

Dangers: 2. Conchero will push forward from the wide gate and give an honest sight. Sat outside the lead, hit the front then was run down by Spaceballs first-up a couple of weeks ago. Fitter for that and has to be respected. 10. Majorca Sunset was sent out favourite in a strong maiden at Wagga on Australia Day and did a good job to run second after getting back from a wide gate. Isn’t far off a win and is one of the main chances. 1. Polymnia hasn’t been exposed in two recent trials and is a market watch first-up at this trip. Placed at Kensington back in October over 1400m and also placed when resuming in that prep.

How to play it: Jacob’s Ladder WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 4:05PM PROVEN THOROUGHBREDS HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

3. Silencio Porfavour comes to town first-up on the back of easy wins over the same trip at Kembla Grange and Scone in August. Given an easy time in his most recent trial, races handy to the speed and has to be the one to beat.

Dangers: 5. Misty Legend won first-up last time in and bumped into a handy one when runner-up at Kembla before a spell. Trialled nicely for this and looks a danger. 1. Mabel bobs up now and then in this sort of race as she did at Randwick three runs back when narrowly beaten in a Midway. Not beaten far at Canterbury last start and has each-way claims. 6. Abuse Of Power is coming off an easy win at Nowra when resuming from a lengthy spell. Drops 8kg after the claim and should be prominent from barrier one. Could measure up.

How to play it: Silencio Porfavour WIN ($1.90 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 4:40PM VICTOR LUDORUM FIRST YEARLINGS HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

4. House Of Cards found himself well back in the run when resuming over this course and hit the line nicely into second place. Shade better off at the weights and fitter, he rarely runs a bad one and can be expected to be in the finish.

Dangers: 3. Don Pedro sat up on the speed and kicked away when beating House Of Cards at what was his second run back. Has that racing style that will see him get a head start again and he has to be a threat. 7. Climb The Ladder is an interesting runner coming out of a Sandown maiden win two weeks ago as favourite. Up quickly in class and drawn out, though this is a fair starting point, but have to keep him safe. 1. Code In Time chases a hat-trick after getting the job done in this grade a few weeks ago. Similar weight after the claim and hard to leave out of the chances.

How to play it: House Of Cards WIN ($3.40 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 5:15PM ASAHI SUPER DRY HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

5. Scintilla looks a progressive filly and she’s been dominant in two wins at Canterbury when sitting up on the pace. Goes to 1400m now but that looks no issue and she’ll likely get a similar run. Hard to fault her.

Dangers: 8. Wings Of Desire was tried at stakes level twice in the spring and didn’t disgrace in the first of them. Fitter for a couple of trials, closing nicely in the latest, and drawn well. Quality filly who has strong claims. 4. Good Sort also had a dip at stakes company last prep and was placed at Group 3 level at Randwick. Nice recent trial and she’s been pretty competitive all through her seven starts to date. Go well. 9. Brigidine Gal showed promise in her first preparation and went out a winner in November. Kicks off at the same trip and worth including.

How to play it: Scintilla WIN ($2.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 5:50PM TAB HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

2. Depth Of Character faces a significant drop in grade after a cheeky first-up run in the Magic Millions Guineas a month ago. Showed a heap of promise as a younger horse and this is a good chance for him to get the confidence back. Entitled to go close.

Dangers: 3. Wrathful made a nice return at 1400m running on into fifth behind Don Pedro. Step to the mile a plus, probably needs this and a shade further but he’ll be hitting the line. 5. Heed The Omens broke through for a narrow win at Canterbury in this class and is sure to get a nice run from the gate once again. Each-way claims. 8. The Replicant doesn't win often but he does regularly feature in the finish. Hard to leave out of the exotics at least.

How to play it: Depth Of Character WIN ($3.60 TAB Fixed Odds).
