Racing NSW is saddened to hear of the passing last Friday morning of popular former south coast jockey Ron Bundy, and we extend our deepest condolences to Ron’s family and friends.
Ron rode 330 Australian winners and was also the leading rider in New Caledonia for a number of years.
Over his career Ronny held the position of stable rider with several Moruya’s leading trainers and ruled his home track of Moruya with more than 110 wins including the first race at the new Moruya track in 1985.
He was associated with several quality horses, with 41 wins for Brian Heffernan (including 10 wins on Grand Contender), Rado Boljun (including Rush Rules), Steve Stephens (including Canny Garinsky) and Don Afflick (including Gemmy Lad).
Ron also rode 15 winners for his wife Lynda who continues to train from the Moruya racecourse.
Ronny won numerous jockey premierships throughout South-eastern NSW, with feature race wins in the Moruya Cup, Nowra Cup, Bega Cup and the Braidwood Cups.
Ronny Bundy was always reliable, helpful, loyal and fun to be around.
A devoted and much-loved part of racing in Moruya, not only as a jockey but as track supervisor for many years, Ron loved poking his head in the Moruya jockeys’ room, enjoying the camaraderie of the racecourse.
The Funeral Service for Ron Bundy was held at Moruya Jockey Club at 12pm on Friday 5th July.
