Racing NSW has been notified of the death of former Rosehill trainer Mr John Moc, who passed away on Monday (28th September) aged 69.
Mr Moc was a successful trainer and also a dedicated long-time 'clocker' for The Sportsman newspaper.
Trainer Stephen 'Beaver' Schofield rode for John and recalled several of his good gallopers.
"I learned a lot from John when I rode for him; we had many winners," Beaver said today. "He had a lot of success with older horses that were passed on to him.
"He didn't work his horses real hard and that was the key. Some I can remember were Papagano, Willy Willy and King Amura.
"John was a real battler and loved going to the bush with his horses and getting money. He went to Bega one day, trained a winner and then tried to drive back.
"He fell asleep at the wheel and the car ended up in bushes near Bulli Pass. Luckily, he was OK.
"John was a great bloke who would do anything for you - he will be missed."
Other horses John prepared were former New Zealand stayer Winston Churchill and Albany Street.
Another trainer, Tracey Bartley, was John Moc's nephew: "He came from a great era of trainers with the likes of Jack Denham and company.
"He pulled off a huge plunge on King Amura; I think he was something like 33/1 into 2/1 and bolted in.
"He was still clocking horses up until 18 months ago before he developed health problems. At one stage John was clocking all of Chris Waller's horses at Rosehill."
Funeral details are yet to be announced.
