The racing industry is mourning the passing of former trainer and horsewoman Joan Peever, who passed away last Sunday (9th August 2020), aged 81.
Her daughter, Cindy, confirmed that Joan commenced her career in harness racing prior to veering into the Thoroughbred world, working for champion trainer Bart Cummings at Randwick in the 1970s.
Joan went on to become the first licensed female trainer at the Australian Turf Club, then AJC, enjoying lots of success.
Her career highlights include a win at the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast with racehorse, Shady Manner, ridden by jockey John Marshall.
Dual Canberra Cup wins with Reingard, ridden by Maurice Logue, were also highlights.
Relatives and friends of Joan are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service next Wednesday, 19th August 2020 from 11am at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church, 1788 The Horsley Drive, Horsely Park.
