Top Of My List proved her JRA Plate victory was no fluke last start by taking out the Listed Lord Mayor’s Cup (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
The four-year-old mare rose 4.5kg and was racing on a firm track but it made no difference as she skipped away from her fellow leaders before holding off a late challenge from Allergic.
Top Of My List was given a beautiful ride
“The idea was to stay out there away from the others and let them sort themselves out. They went a little bit quicker than last time but she was very strong at the finish,” said co-trainer Anthony Cummings.
“She is a big mare and has great efficiency in the way she gets along. She covers ground easily.
“Her next start will be in Brisbane. It could be the Doomben Cup in a couple of weeks. Typically we have spaced her runs out. She’ll run a mile and half easy so the Brisbane Cup is a nice race for her. It’s just a matter of how we get there.”
Tim Clark positioned the mare behind leader Hunter Jack before popping out at the top of the straight and letting her roll into the race.
“She’s really appreciated getting out to these trips and getting into a nice rhythm. You’ve got to let her go through her gears because if you rush her she gets a bit unbalanced,” Clark said.
“She has shown good staying potential and Anthony is never afraid of having a throw at the stumps at something a bit harder. She is a nice, progressive mare.”
