There’s little doubt Group 1 winner The Mission is a better horse than what he showed first-up and he could be a sharp improver in the Golden Rose at Rosehill on Saturday.
Racing NSW chief steward Marc Van Gestel said excuses were offered for The Missions last placing in the Stan Fox Stakes and he heads this week’s Forgive File.
“The Mission was slowly away and raced too fiercely in the run,’’ Van Gestel said.
“He then went to the lead and refused to settle. He was first-up and his condition then gave out.’’
The Mission, winner of the Group 1 Champagne Stakes in the autumn, is one of the outsiders at $71 for the $1m Golden Rose (1400m).
Here are some horses highlighted by Van Gestel running at Rosehill on Saturday.
Bella Success (race 1, $14 TAB) – 4th at Warwick Farm on September 20: “She went back and was badly held up to the 150m and again for a brief distance near the 100m. Should have finished closer.”
Euro Angel (race 5, $6 TAB) – 3rd at Rosehill on September 9: “She got a long way back in Theo Marks and made good ground in the straight.’’
Daysee Doom (race 8, $5 TAB) – 3rd at Rosehill on September 9: “Was held up early part of the straight.’’
Danish Twist (race 8, $7 TAB) – 7th at Rosehill on September 9: “She was slowly away, never really got clear running in the straight when first up. Forget the run.’’
Magic Alibi (race 8, $19) – 4th at Rosehill on September 9: “She was held up until the 200m and worked to the line okay.’’
