Chris Waller’s in-form Lord Ardmore heads up an impressive team of stayers nominated for this Friday’s $200,000 Carlton Wyong Gold Cup.
The five-year-old, one of eight Waller nominees, has put together two wins and two placings from his four starts this preparation, his latest victory in the Premiers Cup Prelude at Randwick on August 6.
Our Intrigue, another from the Waller yard, was narrowly beaten in a Group 3 and two Listed races during the Brisbane Winter Carnival and resumed over 1600m in Hawkesbury’s Listed Rowley Mile.
Waller has dominated the Wyong Cup in recent years, chasing his eighth Cup victory since 2010.
Last Saturday week’s Group 3 Premier Cup winner Arapaho, trained by Bjorn Baker, will be hoping to spoil the party with 2020 Cup-winning jockey Rachel King, likely to take the ride.
Grove Ferry will represent the Waterhouse/Bott yard, the six-year-old coming off strong runs in both the Premiers Cup and Premier’s Prelude, where he was runner-up.
The Cup takes on an international flavour with She’s A Maneater, trained by New Zealander Peter Lock, among the noms.
The $160,000 Listed Mona Lisa has attracted a very strong group including Waller’s last start Rosehill winner Sur La Mer and Chris Munce’s Boom Nova, who strung together three successive wins over the Brisbane Carnival, including the Listed Lightning at Eagle Farm.
Locals could also have a strong hand in the race with Kristen Buchanan saddling up Flandersrain and Pandora Blue, Tracey Bartley Miss Redoble and Sonnet Star trained by Damien Lane.
Nominations for the Cup and several other races on the card, have been extended until 11am on Tuesday (30th August).
