A cheque for $45,000 will be presented to the ATC Foundation at Saturday’s Warwick Farm meeting as part of the Australian Turf Club’s Community Engagement program.
The donation was raised from 5 per cent of net prizemoney earned by Osborne Bulls – the ATC and Godolphin slot runner – after the horse ran third in the world’s richest race on turf the $13 million The TAB Everest at the Sydney Everest Carnival.
Australian Turf Club Chairman Matt McGrath said the ATC Foundation donation would be directed towards drought relief.
“One of the added thrills of Osborne Bulls’ great run in the TAB Everest was allowing us to make such a large donation to a cause that has affected the racing industry and the wider community in so many ways,” Mr McGrath said.
The Australian Turf Club’s Royal Randwick and Warwick Farm racecourses host two days of festive season racing this Friday afternoon and Saturday, with free entry to all patrons at both meetings.
Friday’s seven-race twilight meeting on the Kensington track starts at 3.10pm, with the last race at 6.45pm allowing workers to enjoy an early evening at the track as they head into a Christmas break.
Gates open at 2.15pm at Royal Randwick on Friday with the Kensington track rated a soft 5 on Thursday afternoon.
Warwick Farm hosts the first of two Saturday meetings over the Christmas and New Year period with a nine-race card starting at 1.20pm.
This Saturday’s meeting will be followed by another on Saturday, 5 January as the picturesque Western Sydney course also continues to prepare to host a big day of Group racing on Saturday 9 February.
That meeting will include the Group 2 $200,000 Breeders Classic, along with the inaugural running at Warwick Farm of the $2 million Inglis Millennium for two-year-olds over 1200m, and the $1 million Inglis Sprint over 1100m for three-year-olds.
Warwick Farm Racecourse Manager Mark Jones said the course proper was rated a Heavy 8 after a further 10mm of rain overnight.
