The Australian Turf Club will host back-to-back racing events with this Friday, 27 October marking the opening night of Schweppes Summer Nights at Canterbury Park and Saturday, 28 October featuring Cox Plate Race Day at Royal Randwick. Entry is free to all ten race meetings at Canterbury Park throughout 2017/2018, where all patrons will have the chance to enter to win the ATC $10,000 Cash Giveaway by simply being on track to enter the draw. Schweppes will host the opening night with the first race scheduled at 6.15pm. The night will feature the hugely popular Canterbury Foodies Markets as well as free entertainment for all ages including live music, a jumping castle, pony rides and face painting. The opening night will have a Halloween theme and children are encouraged to dress up to enter the Halloween Best Dressed competition, with the winner collecting a $200 Toys-‘R’-Us voucher. The feature racing event of the night, the $80,000 Schweppes Evening Star has a full field of 12 entrants with three emergencies. Matthew Dunn-trained Hay Now opened as the $2.70 TAB Fixed Odds favourite. The mare was unsuccessful in her last start when she stepped up in distance, however prior to that, she had not placed worse than second in her career. The Sydney Spring Carnival will continue on Saturday with Cox Plate Race Day where racegoers will enjoy nine live races trackside while all of the action from Moonee Valley, including Winx in the main race at 5.00pm, will be televised across the course. Racegoers can cheer on Sydney’s racing queen from the Sydney Loves Winx marquee, as she aims for an historic third consecutive W.S Cox Plate. The hospitality space provides guests with Winx merchandise, gourmet food and beverage options and a marquee filled with fellow racing enthusiasts. Patrons can also pre-purchase the $39 Punters Pack at theRaces.com.au. The value loaded Punters Pack includes entry, two standard drinks, food pack, reserved seating in the grandstand and a race book. On the track, Sir Plush, trained by Bjorn Baker, leads the betting in the $100,000 Robrick Lodge Filante Handicap. The $4.00 TAB Fixed Odds favourite was successful over course and distance last start. John O’Shea-trained Kaepernick ($6.50 TAB Fixed Odds) will step out at 1400m for the first time this preparation and is racing as though the extra distance will suit. Exciting Hinchinbrook gelding, Stonebrook, for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, will be looking to maintain his unblemished record in the $100,000 McMahons Racecourse Construction Handicap. The short priced $1.85 TAB Fixed odds favourite has taken out four from four, including an impressive 5 length win at Canterbury Park on 18 October. Gates Open on Saturday at 11.00am with the first race at 12.55pm. All valid pre-purchased tickets and ATC Members cards include travel on Sydney train, ferry and bus services to ensure a hassle free arrival and departure from Royal Randwick. Free car parking is available at the racecourse and buses will run between Eddy Avenue at Central Station and Royal Randwick racecourse.
