Sydney Markets Rosebud Offers First Early Taste Of Spring Features

A first pathway to a coveted Group 1 target emerges at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday as Sydney racing continues its track towards another spectacular spring.

The $200,000 Listed-Sydney Markets Rosebud offers three-year-olds an early return ahead of a series of Rosehill Gardens races ultimately leading to the sought-after $1 million Group 1-Golden Rose on 28 September.

In coming weeks for the three-year-olds, Rosehill Gardens also hosts the $250,000 Group 3-San Domenico Stakes, $250,000 Group 3-Up and Coming Stakes (31 August) and $300,000 Group 2-Run To The Rose (14 September).

Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering, Nevesh Ramdhani said the Sydney Markets Rosebud was an early taste of spring racing.

“The Sydney Markets Rosebud has provided two of the past four Golden Rose winners so it is a race targeted by trainers and watched closely for further features," Mr Ramdhani said.

“We look forward to seeing the next emerging stars in the three-year-old ranks step out and lay claim for Group races into the coming spring."

The James Cummings-trained Tarpaulin is the $3.60 TAB favourite with Zac Lloyd aboard ahead of Gatsbys for multiple-premiership champions Chris Waller and James McDonald at $3.80 in Saturday’s feature.

Hawkes Racing's runner Brave One with in-form jockey Jay Ford has been backed early ($6 into $5.50).

Saturday’s 10-race card begins at 11.35am with the last race due to jump at 4.55pm.

  • After Race 2 the Chris Waller-trained Group winners FANGIRL (James McDonald), VIA SISTINA (Kerrin McEvoy) and RIFF ROCKET (Nash Rawiller) will go over 1000m, all galloping separately.
  • There will be further gallops after Race 3 by the Chris Waller-trained JOLIESTAR (James McDonald), ZOUGOTCHA (Tommy Berry) and ATISHU (Tyler Schiller) over 1000m, all galloping separately.
