Sydney Autumn Racing Launches In Style At Rosehill

One of the most anticipated events in Sydney racing history starts at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday on Chandon S Ladies Day – day one of the 2019 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

It is the start of six weeks of world-class racing, fashion and entertainment at Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwick – including the Longines Golden Slipper Carnival and The Championships – and the farewell appearances of the world’s best horse Winx.

Saturday sees the running of the Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic and the final qualifying races for the world’s richest race for two-year-olds, the Group 1 $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper on 23 March at Rosehill Gardens.

Chandon S Ladies Day will also offer the style and sophistication of the Harrolds Fashion Chute, where contestants are photographed in their raceday finest to be in the running for a range of prizes.

Finalists in female and male categories will be notified and invited back to the Harrolds Fashion Chute on the day and judged by some of Australia’s most influential personalities on the fashion scene.

This Saturday ladies can also enjoy a free beauty concierge including a selection of perfumes, eyelash bars, and hostesses providing lipstick and lip gloss touch-ups.

Eats at the Gardens and a host of pop-up bars and food outlets will provide on course patrons with a range of options as the action heats up on the track on a nine-race card full of huge fields.

The Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic has attracted a capacity 20-horse field with some of Australia’s best fillies and mares.

In a wide-open market, I Am Serious for Sydney’s champion trainer Chris Waller and jockey James McDonald is the early $5.50 TAB favourite on fixed odds, ahead of Melbourne visitor Jamaican Rain ($8 TAB). Nine other runners are priced between $12 and $19 with TAB.

The Group 3 $175,000 Bowermans Office Furniture Pago Pago Stakes has a field of 14 runners attempting to secure their place in the iconic Longines Golden Slipper.

Cosmic Force for former Longines Golden Slipper-winning trainers Peter and Paul Snowden is the $4.20 TAB favourite ahead of stablemate Hightail ($5 TAB) and the reigning Longines Golden Slipper-winning stable Hawkes Racing’s Born A Warrior ($5.50).

For the fillies aiming for a Longines Golden Slipper spot in the Group 3 $175,000 Harrolds Magic Night Stakes, another big field of 15 runners is lead in the market by the powerful Godolphin team’s runner Athiri ($3.70 TAB).

Kiwi visitor Probabeel, trained by Jamie Richards and ridden by Opie Bosson, adds huge interest to the race as a winner of three from four starts and a $5.50 TAB chance.

On a big day of Group and black type racing, the Group 2 $200,000 Hyland Race Colours Ajax Stakes and Group 2 Chandon S Phar Lap Stakes have also attracted big fields and wide open TAB markets.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager of Racing Services and membership, James Heddo, said Sydney was set for six weeks of world-class racing and a special moment in Australian sporting history.

“Saturday’s massive card and Group 1 action at Rosehill Gardens is just the start of what promises to be one of Sydney’s best ever Autumn carnivals, including Longines Golden Slipper Day and the expected appearance of Winx,” Mr Heddo said.

“Tickets sales for Longines Golden Slipper Day are climbing rapidly so people should lock in their spot now for Australia’s biggest day of Group 1 racing.”

Rosehill Gardens was rated a Good 4 track on Thursday afternoon but with rain predicted over coming days. Australian Turf Club will send out an updated track report on Friday afternoon.

Rosehill Gardens and all ATC racecourses provide free parking and free high capacity WiFi.
