Ballina Jockey Club returns to Cup racing this Sunday when it stages its Community Cup meeting.
Brisbane trainer Pat Duff took talented On Demand to last week’s Lismore Cup meeting where the six-year-old gelding son of Snippetson won the $30,000 Rousillon.
He has nominated the seven-time winner for Sunday’s Community Cup along with Unbowed, who was third to Deitch at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
Schopenhauer (Leo Clapham) was an unlucky second to Spirit Of Husson at Lismore while Redwolf (Alan Ryan) and Hope Island (Daniel Bowen) also ran big races.
Daniel Bowen thought Hope Island was unlucky when fourth to On Demand in the Rousillon.
Moree Cup winner, Belflyer, is also in the Community Cup mix after finishing three lengths from Bourbon Road in his latest outing at Ipswich.
The Stephen lee-trained Voltaire Lumiere was a narrow second in that same race and looms large in Community Cup consideration.
“It’s going to be a cracking little race,” said BJC general manager Matt Bertram.
“Redwolf won the NRRA country Championships heat up here a couple of years ago but had over 400 days off with a tendon injury I think. That was a pretty good run at Lismore the other day. They looked to have a great day with a big crowd and some great racing.”
He said Lismore Cup winner, Skytrek, had won the 1900m race at Ballina on Ballina Cup day, making it a great yardstick for the 2100m Lismore Cup.
