Day three of Longines Golden Slipper Carnival at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday has a focus for Western Sydney families, with a host of free entertainment for kids along with Group 1 racing on the track for Stakes Day.
The Group 1 $1.5 million KIA Tancred Stakes and Group 1 $500,000 Vinery Stud Stakes are major highlights of a big nine-race card, which also features two Group 2 and four Group 3 events.
Free pony rides, a family petting zoo, face painting, a jumping castle and airbrush tattoos are some of the free family-friendly attractions on offer around the Figtree Lawn and railway entrance forecourt, starting from 11.00am.
The free entertainment is also close to the popular Eats at The Gardens undercover food precinct behind the main JR Fleming Grandstand.
Godolphin and trainer James Cummings will be looking to take out the big Rosehill Gardens double with the hot $1.60 TAB fixed odds favourite Avilius in the Group 1 $1.5 million KIA Tancred Stakes, following the stable’s victory in last week’s Longines Golden Slipper.
To be ridden by James McDonald, Avilius is a clear favourite ahead of Red Cardinal ($6), trained by Kris Lees for jockey Kerrin McEvoy.
Saturday is the second year KIA has partnered with Australia’s only weight for age Group 1 race over 2400m.
Jockey James McDonald is also riding the $2.50 TAB favourite Verry Elleegant in the Group 1 $500,000 Vinery Stud Stakes, for champion Sydney trainer Chris Waller.
Nakeeta Jane trained by Mark Newnham and for jockey Josh Parr ($6) and Pohutukawa ($7), another from the powerful Godolphin team and ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, are next in the market as the three-year-old fillies take further steps towards the Heineken 3 Australian Oaks.
Vinery Stud recently further extended its partnership with the Australian Turf Club’s Group 1 2000m three-year-old fillies event.
Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager of Racing Services, James Heddo, said Saturday would complete one of Rosehill Gardens’ most successful ever Longines Golden Slipper Carnivals.
“Last Saturday’s Longines Golden Slipper meeting highlighted what a fantastic venue Rosehill Gardens is for a Group 1 raceday across all Members and general admission spaces,” Mr Heddo said.
“Saturday’s Stakes Day has a new family focus and we welcome all of Western Sydney and beyond to join in the free family entertainment along with more exciting Group 1 racing.”
The Rosehill Gardens track was rated a soft 7 on Thursday morning, with a track report available here with Track Manager Shaun Patterson:
