Sydney turned on some dazzling afternoon sunshine for the final day of the 2022 The Star Championships at Royal Randwick.
The highlight was an amazing victory by Think It Over in the $4 million Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes, after Nash Rawiller plotted a unique course by taking the galloper out wide near the outside fence.
“The Championships continues to produce world-class racing that showcases Australia’s best racehorses to a worldwide audience,” said Racing NSW’s CEO, Peter V’landys AM.
“The Championships is the nation’s Grand Finals of racing and this afternoon’s ninth edition was another exciting chapter.”
Other features of the day included an all-the-way win by Knights Order in the Schweppes Sydney Cup.and Marzu’s sizzling win in the Arrowfield 3yo Sprint that put him into calculations for the TAB Everest.
Another highlight was Sydney jockey Nash Rawiller claiming his first Nathan Berry Medal having taken out the Longines Queen Elizabeth on Think It Over and the Polytrack Provincial-Midway Championships Final on Kinloch.
Australian Turf Club Chief Executive, Jamie Barkley said: "Sydney has embraced the weather today and supported one of Australia’s best racedays.
“The Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes was the race of the century and provided a ride to match by Nash.”
Popular ABBA tribute band Bjorn Again, who has performed in more than 120 countries, completed the day with an upbeat performance in the Theatre of the Horse.
