Silver Slipper Fits Into A Golden Pathway At Rosehill Gardens

The journey to the world’s richest race for two-year-olds – Sydney’s iconic $5 million Group 1 Longines Golden Slipper – continues at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday with the running of a key feature just four weeks from the ultimate prize.

Saturday’s Group 2 $250,000 Fujitsu General Silver Slipper Stakes sees the winner secure their place in the Longines Golden Slipper on 18 March and brings connections closer to a $1 million bonus from the Australian Turf Club.

The Fujitsu General Silver Slipper Stakes is one of seven pathway races** (table below) linked to the $1 million bonus, won if an individual horse wins two of these races and the Longines Golden Slipper at Rosehill Gardens.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering James Ross said:

“Saturday is the 60th renewal of the Fujitsu General Silver Slipper Stakes – an integral pathway race to the Group 1 $5 million Longines Golden Slipper.

“Four horses in the past 11 renewals of the Fujitsu General Silver Slipper have gone on to win the Longines Golden Slipper, making it a key pathway and an attractive target for the $1 million bonus.’’

Saturday’s 10-race card also features the Group 2 $400,000 Petaluma Hobartville Stakes, Group 2 $250,000 Rosehill Bowling Club Millie Fox Stakes and Listed $160,000 Parramatta Cup.

Full fields for all races are available here.

In the Fujitsu General Silver Slipper Stakes, Peter and Paul Snowden train the early and well-backed TAB favourite King’s Gambit ($3.10-$2.60) with jockey Nash Rawiller to ride.

The trainers are looking for their first Silver Slipper while Rawiller looks for a third win (Amelia’s Dream 2008) and previously dual Silver Slipper/Golden Slipper and two-year-old triple crown champion Pierro (2012).

Longines Golden Slipper record-holding trainer Gai Waterhouse with Adrian Bott saddles up Platinum Jubilee ($3.80-$4.20 TAB) in the Fujitsu General Silver Slipper.

Gai has won the race four times individually and also in partnership with Adrian in 2020 when Farnan also claimed the Silver Slipper/Golden Slipper double.

Equal third TAB favourites at $5.50 are Cylinder (James Cummings and Brenton Avdulla) and Mumbai Muse (Michael Freedman and Brett Prebble).

In the past 20 renewals of the Fujitsu General Silver Slipper, the first or second starting price favourite has won 15 times.

Saturday sees the 98th running of the Group 2 $400,000 Petaluma Hobartville Stakes, which has seen a string of champion three-year-olds win in its history including Anamoe, The Autumn Sun, Kementari, Pierro, Racing To Win and Lonhro,

The Godolphin colt Aft Cabin for trainer James Cummings and jockey Tim Clark opens a dominant $1.70-$1.65 TAB favourite after a brilliant first up win in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes.

Osipenko for ($8.50-$8 TAB) Chris Waller and jockey Nash Rawiller and Zou Tiger ($7-$8 TAB) for John O’Shea and Brenton Avdulla are next in betting.

Sixteen of the past 20 winners of the race have been in the first three SP bracket.

Mariama trained by Joe Pride and with Tim Clark to ride opens a strongly-backed $2.60-$2 TAB favourite in the Group 2 $250,000 Rosehill Bowling Club Millie Fox Stakes.

She comes off a three-length win at Weight For Age last start in the TAB Expressway Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.
