The world’s best horse Winx will be on show for her Sydney fans at a special public event this Saturday, 9 February, ahead of her highly-anticipated return to racing in The Star Apollo Stakes at Royal Randwick a week later.
The Australian Turf Club and Chris Waller Racing will host the breakfast event and exhibition gallop at Royal Randwick this Saturday, starting in the undercover horse day stalls from 7.30am.
Waller, jockey Hugh Bowman and the champion mare’s owners will be on hand before Winx goes on to the track for an exhibition gallop at 8.00am as she prepares to return to racing on Saturday, 16 February at Royal Randwick, chasing a remarkable 30th consecutive victory.
Australian Turf Club Members and the general public are being invited to attend the morning to see the mighty mare up close and in action.
A sausage sizzle breakfast will be available for a gold coin donation, with all proceeds to be directed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital.
Chris Waller said: “We would like to give Winx a race day experience before she resumes her Sydney Autumn Racing campaign, and the opportunity to put her on a float and take her to Royal Randwick will round off her preparation perfectly.
“It also gives us the chance to let the public see her close up and also on the track.
“I look forward to seeing many of her fans at Royal Randwick this Saturday, as well as during her racing campaign through the Sydney autumn.”
Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing Services and Membership James Heddo said Saturday was a rare opportunity for fans to see the world’s best horse.
“Sydney fans shouldn’t miss any opportunity to see Winx whether it be this Saturday or on several race days this autumn,” Mr Heddo said.
“We also thank Chris Waller, Hugh Bowman and Winx’s owners for allowing this special access on Saturday.”
Free parking will be available on Saturday via Alison Road and Ascot Street entrances.
Winx may have up to four runs in Sydney this campaign, starting with the Group 2 $160,000 The Star Apollo Stakes at Royal Randwick on Saturday 16 February.
Her autumn program could also include the Group 1 $600,000 TAB Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday 2 March, the Group 1 $1 million The Agency George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on Longines Golden Slipper Day Saturday 23 March, and a final run in the Group 1 $4 million Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday 13 April.
