Royal Randwick A Highlight This Big Sporting Weekend

Three Group 1 races will headline a spectacular program this Saturday, 30 September at TAB Epsom Day as Royal Randwick joins in on the country’s big sporting weekend celebrations.

Trackside, ATC will be a live site for the AFL Grand Final with dedicated screens located on the Octagonal Lawn.

NRL Grand Final ticket holders get free entry to Royal Randwick on Saturday by presenting their ticket at the gate.

Those not holding an NRL Grand Final ticket can take advantage of the $49 Punters Pack which is available for pre-purchase at theRaces.com.au. Representing more than $100 in value, the Punters Pack includes entry, two standard drinks, food pack and a race book.

All valid pre-purchased tickets and ATC Members cards include travel on Sydney train, ferry and bus services to ensure a hassle free arrival and departure from Royal Randwick.

The ATC Punters Club Challenge will run for the third time this Saturday in the Ballroom with 31 teams competing for some great prizes. Supported by industry partner TAB, the event invites groups of keen racing followers to form a team and compete against other ‘punters clubs’.

Hosted by Sky Sports Radio’s Terry Kennedy, participants will have the opportunity to win a share of over $10,000 in prize money doing what punters do best, plus keep all your winnings from the day’s play.

Punters on the day have three great Group 1 events to follow, including the day’s namesake race, the Group 1 $1 million TAB Epsom Handicap which has Happy Clapper as the $3.00 TAB Fixed Odds favourite. The Pat Webster-trained gelding scored a decisive win first up and ran second to Winx in his last run.

Egg Tart ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds) for Chris Waller is also coming off a last start second place. The Sebring mare finished 4 lengths behind TAB Everest contender Deploy in the Theo Marks Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on 9 September.

Stablemate Libran ($5.00 TAB Fixed odds) has been favoured in the Group 1 $750,000 The Metropolitan in an open market.

The six-year-old won the Kingston Town Stakes over 2000m last up and will again face placegetters Antonio Giuseppe ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds) Life Less Ordinary ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds), also from Waller Racing.

The Group 1 $500,000 Flight Stakes has positioned itself as one of the most sought after filly’s races on the calendar. The honour roll shows up elite mares such as Sunline (1998), Ha Ha (2001), Samantha Miss (2008) and More Joyous (2009).

In the last 20 years, the Tea Rose/Flight Stakes double has been taken out ten times, and James Cummings will be looking to continue to grow this statistic when Alizee ($3.20 TAB Fixed Odds) faces the starter.

The Sepoy filly scored a strong win over 1400m on 16 September and will be tested when she steps up to a mile this run.

Bjorn Baker’s Champagne Cuddles ($3.80 TAB Fixed Odds) and Kelly Schweida-trained Cellargirl ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds) closely follow in the betting after running second and third respectively in the Tea Rose.

Gates Open at 11.00am with the first race at 12.20pm.

Free car parking is available at the racecourse and buses will run between Eddy Avenue at Central Station and Royal Randwick racecourse.
