Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Rosehill meeting. Selections based on a good track.
Race 1 - 2:35PM JAMES SQUIRE HANDICAP (1200 METRES) |

1. Aye Aye Captain was an impressive winner over this course first-up and perhaps didn’t run out the 1400m last time at Warwick Farm. Boxed on fairly there and coming back to 1200m suits from a soft draw. Entitled to be in the finish.
Dangers: 3. Shelstein showed a good deal of fight when breaking through for a maiden win at Kembla a couple of weeks ago as a solid favourite. Can only be better for it and gets plenty of favours from barrier one. 5. Unleeshing hasn’t raced since an impressive heavy track debut win at Mudgee back in May, sweeping home from the back. Led to win recent trial and interesting to see how she measures up. 2. Glorioso was a beaten favourite first-up then got the job done at Hawkesbury getting a run through the field and prevailing in a tight finish. Has claims.
How to play it: Aye Aye Captain WIN ($2.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 3:10PM RANVET HANDICAP (1400 METRES) |

7. Leconfield was held up for a run at a vital stage when fifth at Warwick Farm a few weeks ago and the race was gone when he got out. Since trialled and entitled to another chance.
Dangers: 2. Bengal ran well first-up but was a shade flat at Kensington two weeks ago when favourite. If he runs up to the fresh effort he’s in the finish somewhere. 5. Jolly Good Fellow was a beaten favourite at Wyong second-up and gets the blinkers on first time so open to some improvement. 6. Brigidine Gal has done nothing wrong with placings in both starts to date and has claims again.
How to play it: Leconfield WIN ($2.90 TAB Fixed Odds).
Race 3 - 3:45PM BISLEY WORKWEAR HANDICAP (1500 METRES) |
---|
1. Miss Hades hasn’t been able to get into her races in two runs back from wide gates over shorter trips. Has been running on okay but up to 1500m from the much better gate and down 1kg after the claim she has the platform to go close.
Dangers: 4. Concordia Wind has shown a bit of promise and ran up to the support she had at Kensington last time when a closing second behind Darling Downs. One of the chances again. 2. Little Jeanie started favourite in that race and just worked home okay into fourth. Starting to get costly with one win from 11 starts but couldn’t leave her out. 3. Star Act is in a similar boat and was handy all the way when running third at Kensington. Might need some rain around to help her so keep that in mind.
How to play it: Miss Hades WIN ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 4:20PM TRIPLE TIME @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1800 METRES) |

1. Morning Sun showed promise in his first Australian prep with placings in all three starts between a mile and 2000m. Likely improves on whatever he does here but fitter for two trials and would be worth keeping safe.
Dangers: 4. Danish Prince could get some on pace favours in this field, he’s been boxing on okay from outside the lead in Midway company of late. Capable of giving some cheek. 8. Bestower is a lightly raced mare who showed improvement second-up over 1500m at Newcastle. Was competitive at this level last time in and has to be considered. 2. First Innings didn't fire over the short trip first-up at Doomben so he will appreciate the sharp rise in distance. Can improve sharply.
How to play it: Morning Sun WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 4:55PM STAR TURN @ VINERY STUD HANDICAP (1500 METRES) |

1. Edited By wasn’t able to lead last time at Warwick Farm and just battled finishing midfield. Down in class and on previous couple of efforts at this level he should give a good account with the lead up for grabs. Should fare better here.
Dangers: 2. Congregation was no match for the winner but ran on from last into second behind Zouatica at Kensington a month ago. Back in grade and drawn well so should be one of the major players. 4. Dazzle Legend hasn’t been far away in similar races and was close up behind Battleton here on Golden Eagle day. Doesn’t need to improve a whole lot to be competitive. 9. Empire Of Art is an import first-up for the Waller stable. Trialled twice and drawn one, could show up at this sort of trip.
How to play it: Edited By WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds).
Edited By runs second at Warwick Farm on October 16
Race 6 - 5:30PM TAB HANDICAP (1300 METRES) |

5. Piercing Arrow went down fighting when resuming at Kensington in September then failed on a wet track here behind Edited By just over a month ago. Has trialled well since and gets blinkers on first time. On a reasonable surface he can take beating.
Dangers: 7. Drift Net had her chance when resuming at Kensington two weeks ago but wasn’t beaten far and strips fitter for it. Both wins to date have been around this trip and she’s a logical threat. 3. Bright Red has performed at a higher level and while she tends to need a run she can sprint well fresh at this sort of trip. Any rain would be a plus for her. 2. Turned Down made a good impression winning at Kembla at his first run for the new stable. Keep in mind.
How to play it: Piercing Arrow WIN ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds).
