She’s a daughter of a top line Group 1 winning filly and if Godolphin can iron out her quirks then Shaken will be making a winning return to the track in the coming weeks after a rousing trial win at Rosehill on Tuesday.
The I Am Invincible youngster is the fifth foal from 2014 Blue Diamond winner and Golden Slipper runner-up Earthquake and while it was clear from the trial she still has a bit to learn she’s come a long way since her inauspicious debut back in February.
In that race she sat wide and refused to settle, throwing her head around, before running off the track on the turn and basically being eased out of it.
What Shaken did in the trial was still throw the head up a bit but she settled a lot better in the one-one spot and powered home under a good hold to win comfortably, and seemingly with a bit in hand, in the second fastest time of the morning for the 900m.
Another Godolphin two-year-old to track is Waterski who looks ready to go to the races after two trials and she did it in cruise mode to win, in about three lengths slower time.
She’s a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner and Everest placegetter Trekking and though the margin was narrow she was always in control outside the leader, who was being hard pressed, and prevailed.
It was a nice bit of improvement from her first trial and expect her to run well on debut.
Cosmic Minerva wins a Rosehill trial
Still on the two-year-olds, the Chris Waller-trained Crusader Razor might be a horse to keep an eye on if he goes to the races on the back of a very handy first public trial effort in the morning’s fastest heat.
He sat just off midfield and responded to a small shake up from Jason Collett, much less duress than the first three in front of him at the finish, to hit the line full of running and he looked good past the post as well.
The heat was won by Andronicus, also having his first trial, a son of Widden Stakes winner Fireworks who took an inside run to arrive in the last few strides.
Cosmic Minerva made it two trial wins for the preparation with a strong performance from just off the pace. Sat handy with cover and cruised past the race fit Luna Rocks to win by three-quarters of a length.
Won first-up last campaign then placed a couple of times in good benchmark company before a shock failure in February but that can be overlooked on the strength of his trials.
Worth noting Chris Waller stablemates Kir Royale and Narito both trialled in good style behind the placings.
A few other horses to note:
Ausbred Mimosa, trained by Blake Ryan, had the flashing light on in her second trial working home nicely from well back behind new stablemate Shadow Raiders.
Atoine hasn’t raced for a year but posted a second trial win and though none were pressured she picked up the leader nicely and can be well placed first-up.
Longvillers is an import who had two runs for Chris Waller in the spring in the Five Diamonds and The Ingham and he ran a close third behind Atoine. Interested to see him again.
