There’s a maiden somewhere in the next week or two that has the name Boston Rocks written all over it and given how well Nathan Doyle places his horses you’d imagine he’ll find the right one.
Boston Rocks was one of three winners prepared by Doyle on Tuesday’s eight race trial session at Rosehill and it’s hard not to be impressed with the two-year-old.
He bounced in front and Ashley Morgan held him together to the turn in the 900m gallop and slipped away around the bend to record his second four-length trial win since moving from Scott Singleton to Doyle.
From a time perspective he clocked the second fastest among the 900m trials. Keep an eye out for him.
Sunzou is another new horse to the Doyle yard and this ex-Victorian three-year-old showed improvement on his first hitout a couple of weeks earlier.
Morgan was also in the saddle and he led them up with some ease, was always a length or two clear once he settled and extended under limited encouragement in the 1030m heat.
He was a Bendigo maiden winner in September, his only placing in five starts to date and has failed badly in the other four so it’ll be interesting to see how he fares.
Sunzou wins a Rosehill trial on July 4
There was nothing wrong with the trial of Born A King in running third in this heat, while Sydney Cup winner Explosive Jack might have been beaten 15 lengths but no doubt his quiet return pleased connections.
Doyle’s other trial winner was two-year-old Wooloowin who has raced once for a Newcastle placing in February and she held off a couple of city performed youngsters in The Little Pumper and Canadian Ruler.
Given she’s eligible for a maiden she can be placed to advantage.
The form out of the two-year-old trial won by Encap should be pretty solid. The Gary Portelli trained youngster got the better of the unraced Can Do Canto close to the line, both niggled a bit, to win in slick time.
Coincide sat four wide throughout and held third, a couple of lengths back, while Cigar Flick, who is an acceptor for Randwick on Saturday, had an easy time in fourth.
A few others worth noting:
Infatuation held off a wall of chasers under a big hold to win her trial with the unraced Sturty catching the eye in midfield at his first hitout.
Didn’t mind the trial of Rise To It in the second 1030m trial, though significantly slower than the first, he’s had four starts and finished just behind them in each but no surprise if he’s improved.
