Rosehill Gardens Rises Up On Hill Stakes Day

The $2 million Group 2-Toyota Forklifts Hill Stakes – one of six feature races at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday – continues the $85m Sydney Everest Carnival just a week out from the world’s richest race on turf.

Saturday’s 10-race card includes the $300,000 Gr 2-Canadian Club Roman Consul Stakes, $500,000 Gr 3-TAB Gloaming Stakes and $250,000 Gr 3-The Nivison.

The second running of the $1.5m Alan Brown Stakes and third running of the newly Listed $500,000 Tapp-Craig add further features to a program with 150 entries.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering, Nevesh Ramdhani said Rosehill Gardens again hosts Hill Stakes Day as an extra feature spring raceday at the racecourse.

“Saturday’s fields are again full of quality horses as the ATC and Racing NSW continue one of the most successful Everest Carnivals yet," Mr Ramdhani said.

“The [$1.5 million] Alan Brown Stakes has attracted a capacity field along with a number of emergencies as it establishes its place on the Sydney spring calendar."

Royal Patronage for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott with jockey Tim Clark is the $3.50 TAB favourite in the Toyota Forklifts Hill Stakes with Pericles for James Cummings & Nash Rawiller at $4.20.

Third favourite is Kovalica at $5.50 for champion trainer Chris Waller – looking to win the race for a record seventh time – and jockey Zac Lloyd. First, second and third favourites have won 17 of the past 20 runnings of the race.

In the $1.5m Alan Brown Stakes, Gringotts, a luckless second last start is the $4 TAB favourite for jockey Tommy Berry and the Ciaron Maher stable.

Encap, a winner of two and placed three further times at the track, is at $7 for trainer Gary Portelli in a highly-competitive betting market in the 17-horse field, and six emergencies.

The $300,000 Gr 2-Canadian Club Roman Consul Stakes, which has a stellar honour roll of multiple Group 1 winners, has again attracted a crack field.

Golden Slipper runner-up Coleman for trainer Matt Laurie and jockey Kerrin McEvoy opens a $3.70-$3.50 TAB favourite ahead of the unbeaten Michael Freedman filly Spirit of Wealth ($6-$4) with Tommy Berry aboard. Gatsby’s for Waller and jockey Josh Parr is at $5.
