TAB have opened defending champion Redzel as $8 favourite for the 2018 TAB Everest, to be run on October 13 and will be worth a staggering $13 million.
The five-year-old has won six straight races which not only include the inaugural running of The Everest but also the G1 Darley Classic and G1 Doomben 10,000. It’s been a steady rise to the top of Australia’s sprinting ranks for the Snowden-trained speedster.

“Redzel has zoomed to the top of the tree in regards to sprinters in Australia over the last few months. I can’t remember a sprinter with a CV like that for a long while,” said TAB’s Glen Munsie.
Chautauqua finds himself on the second line of betting at $11 with Vega Magic while Menari, Merchant Navy and Winx are all at $15.
“Of course you only have to mention The T J Smith and Chautauqua jumps out at you having won the last three runnings which is a phenomenal effort in itself. His Spring campaign went without a win but he has made the Autumn his own in the past,” Munsie said.
“You can only hope we can recreate this year’s TAB Everest when thinking forward to 2018 and really why can’t we.”
The market, which was opened on Monday, has already attracted interest from punters who are looking outside of the obvious early.
"The betting in this race has been very similar to the TJ Smith (which also opened on Monday) with most of the early money focusing on She Will Reign ($26) and Viddora ($51),” TAB’s Andrew Georgiou said.
"Viddora was one of the first horses backed when the market opened yesterday. Redzel has also seen support as our $8 favourite."
