The 2017 Bathurst Cup Legends Raceday on Friday, 27 January promises to be a standout with the biggest prizemoney ever offered at Tyers Park up for grabs and one of Australasia’s greatest jockeys a special guest at the Country Showcase Meeting.
Jim Cassidy, known fondly as The Pumper, is regarded as one of the greatest jockeys in history. One of just three jockeys to have won 100 Group One winners including two Melbourne Cups, the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate he is regarded as the ultimate colourful racing identity.
The master horseman will conduct live interviews trackside and be on hand to meet racegoers and also sign his recently published autobiography Pumper.
As a Country Showcase Meeting each of the eight races at the Bathurst Cup Legends Raceday offers a minimum $30,000 prizemoney.
Bathurst Thoroughbred Racing General Manager, Michelle Tarpenning, said that over the last six years the Bathurst Cup Legends Raceday has developed a reputation for a great day of racing and family fun.
“This year is shaping up to be one of our best ever with something for everyone,” she said.
The eight-race program includes the 1800 metre Bathurst Cup Showcase, Bill Aspros Cup, The Barb Showcase Benchmark 70 Handicap, Ida Traille Showcase, Tulloch Cup Class 2 Handicap, Gold Circle Showcase, Hugh Bowman Cup and Gold Nugget Showcase.
