Quinn Chasing Breakthrough For Carnival Aspirant Bobby (Goulburn Tues)

Trainer Robert Quinn has autumn carnival aspirations for the promising Bobby Is King who chases a breakthrough win at Goulburn on Tuesday.

The meeting was due to be run at Kembla Grange on what would have been a very heavy track, which was a question mark for Quinn but soft ground would be much more to his liking.

Bobby Is King has given Quinn the impression he can put his best foot forward in the Bulgo Beach CG&E Maiden Handicap (1400m).

"It's obviously a query on wet ground as he's never raced on heavy but he has worked on soft tracks," Quinn said.

"From what we've seen from his work on soft tracks, I think he should handle it.

"We have other options at Newcastle and Hawkesbury but would love to run him there."

Bobby Is King is rated a $2.40 favourite with TAB to chalk up his first win at start three with Tom Sherry in the saddle on Tuesday.

The emerging three-year-old has finished on the placegetters heels in two career starts to date, finishing fourth in a Canberra maiden over 1000m before heading to town for a fifth in a 1200m event at Warwick Farm.

Bobby Is King runs fifth at Warwick Farm on February 9

"His first up run was a cracker in a fast 1000m maiden and then we took him to town second up," Quinn said.

"That race in town was won by a Godolphin horse (Arbitration) and it's turned out to be a pretty hot maiden.

"I've always thought on pedigree and type he would want further than that, and the winkers go on for the first time which should help him.

"He's got a nice draw and Tom rides him, who knows him well.

"All things considered, I am very hopeful off what he has done in his two starts so far."

Bobby Is King will take on seven rivals in the opening event on the card at Kembla in what could become a stepping stone to greater goals for the gelding.

Quinn earlier threw in nominations for the Randwick Guineas and Doncaster Mile for Bobby Is King and believes the gelding could possibly get out to a Derby trip if he goes through his grades this time in.

"At this stage they are very lofty aims but you have to stick in the noms," Quinn said.

"They are only three-year-old once so we wanted to give him the chance in the autumn if those races were attainable.

"He has got the Northern Hemisphere staying pedigree and we thought he could possibly get out the that (Derby) distance."
